The deadly sin were considering today is anger. Anger previously, we learned about term of the deadly sins. Probably the envy next week will look at the wonderful sin of sloth you would love that works aloft tells you to do with sloth to do with gluttony and greed and lust, but today were dealing with anger, not some sins such as envy and loss can be hidden from others. But this is a sin you can really hide if you are angry those around you know probably know that you're angry. They swallow slight, real or imagined, may prompt rage may prompt anger, even fury, receipt, and family disputes over time at work on the roads road rage we see incessantly in politics and receipt on social media which is full of vitriol and anger and can I say before we get into this that we the people of God should not be going on social media and demonstrating our anger by all means use it for the spread of the gospel, but so much of it is unhelpful and is vitriolic and we as a people of God should be marked by grace and not anger. I find over the years that many, many men are angry, some repeatedly abuse their lives even assaulting their wives and that anger if it isn't physically expressed is often expressed with vicious words and even curses. We see anger all around us just saw this morning that in Indonesia hundred and 25 people were killed after a soccer match where the home team lost and fence flooded on to the pitch and the police responded and I'm sure there's a tremendous amount of anger we see the sport we see it by players missing by coaches receipt by spectators. I remember when our son Christopher was either a junior or senior in high school I was doing the job part something I for obvious reasons stayed well away from, but he did it and remember going and that he was practicing with another by his year and that this boy's father was standing beside me and we watched as our sons who were much bigger than we were stronger, took a shot part and see how far they could throw this thing for some reason this man watching his son got really annoyed and felt his son should be throwing a shot part further than he was as a practice and remembered the man turned on the sun and that with terrible language terrible language berated his son in front of my son and his son. Obviously after this is working for car with Christopher. I said to him, did you hear that I said I feel terrible for the body being exposed to such anger from his father and the customer said to me that he has zero respect for his dad zero respect for the other side is a 17 and 18-year-old boy and I can almost guarantee that the boy himself will grow up very, very angry, and that if he's married that anger. I'm sure is going to be expressed in all kinds of on helpful ways. This is a very powerful emotion.

All of us know something about integrated a lesser extent, and it is devastating. Let me tell you it's devastating in your life is devastating in relationships and homes society and it is all around us is a pervasive sin.

This deadly sin of anger, the burning fuse of anger ignites explosive and then boom, anger, shouting, cursing, punching walls, even punching people pushing at other times, the anger suppressed. It's perhaps partially hidden by the come out in all kinds of sinful ways with bitterness, sarcasm, insults, gossip sell in this self-pity are passive aggressive behavior, anger for some anger appears in the Bible is in the genesis for when the Lord had regard for Abel's offering and cane when he heard this was very angry. The Bible says so Cain was very angry and his face fall. In fact, Cain was so angry that he couldn't deal with these anger and here in this relationship between two brothers cane is so angry that he kills his brother Martin versus brother many murders today still take place in the home. We went epidemic don't way of anger, of violence in our society is growing. Sadly, and that we see young men killing people in schools, malls, leaders and churches so that as we gather today is an absolutely ridiculous that we gather today we to take security measures because we recognize there are angry people out there, and perhaps even in her congregation have to ask you to all of us any danger signs of anger in your life getting very irritable. Recently snapping at people shouting, cursing, scowling, slamming doors, ignoring people there an angry person unto Bullying not listening to any criticisms getting very annoyed when anyone admonishes you focused on the faults of others. One of these individuals that you spend most of your day watching the news and you're getting so angry over the politics of the day seems to be growing thousand we have more and more angry people, including people who are following Jesus Christ there getting angry over what's happening and that anger is causing problems in their homes and the relationships yes were all concerned with what's going on nurses in our society the way to deal with it is called prayer is taking their weapons of war. Spiritual warfare, but some of us are so angry that we are taking it out on those around us and perhaps you need to spend less time watching the news and more times reading your Bible and in prayer. You're lying awake at night mulling over real or imagined hurts. Don't ignore the danger signs check your anger quickly or as we will see that we probably know anger can quickly get out of control. Yes, anger is a deadly sin we sign with may want to read the word of God together is from Ephesians 4 versus 25 through 32.

Let's read this does berated us that the spirit of God will convict you because this message is for you. Therefore, having put away falsehood.

Let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the block to the devil. Let the thief no longer steel, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your minds, but only such is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness, and Roth and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you a mentally decedent. What a wonderful passage of Scripture you got your Bible is a no many of you have open it to that passage.

We want to look at it in a little more detail. Ephesians 4 versus 25 through 32 nine notice verse 26 be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger. Not all anger is sin of anger is a natural human emotion and verse 26 is best seen not as a command to be angry but rather an injunction not to say no when you are angry. The NIV translates it in your anger do not sin. So anger in and of itself is not sinful. There are clearly situations which make us angry. We see our Lord Jesus, the perfect man angry as he goes into the temple and clears it of the money changers is righteous and indignation was against those who violated word of God use the name of God for their own selfish purposes and exploiting others, and he was angry so sometimes our anger is justifiable when you be angry. She left this morning and went to the in the parking lot and saw man with a steak meeting at two-year-old would be something wrong with us. Everyone angry, but we must differentiate between sinful anger and righteous indignation because anger is such a strong, powerful emotion, it can very quickly and very easily get out of hand and is possible to say well we are righteously indignant when all we are is just bad tempered sinful anger is selfish and is deadly. So the warning is be very very careful when you angry. Angry is an emotion which is to be managed, which is to be brought under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I'm aware that some psychologists encourage people to amend their rage, but I kind of an anger may just breed more anger during Ephesians 410 back in your Bible. A couple of pages to Galatians chapter 5 in Galatians 5 Paul describes the works of the flash and he says in verse 20. Here are some of them idolatry, sorcery, and maintain strife and jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, sanctions divisions, anger is present when there is a division when there's jealousy is when there's rivalries fits of anger outbursts of anger is a work of the flesh that does not come from the Spirit of God that is not to say we ignored her anger.

Anger.

Anger can act like a toxin, profoundly impacting us inwardly and denied our our repressed surprise that fuse may continue to burn but when you're provoked to anger when you experience that emotion when you can feel that anger coming be very very careful.

The warning lights is on. Be careful, take a deep breath. Ask God for help, but over to James one where James gives us very helpful instruction regarding dealing with anger in this practical epistle James chapter 1 you someday. A short fuse. You will probably find yourself it really kind of enjoy individual to speak your mind, but listen to James. James one verse 19 notice, my beloved brothers, let every person be quick to hear law to speak, slow to anger. You're quick to anger, but you to be slow to anger. Why is that for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God when you're angry God is not honored.

That is an expression of your fleshly lusts and is not evidence of the spirit of God in our anger. There's a lot of the flash and very little of God when you're angry, commit the situation to the Lord. What's causing your anger the spirit of God were to follow Christ were indwelt by the spirit of God this, but of God doesn't produce anger.

He doesn't produce outbursts of shooting, he produces what peace and harmony. Proverbs 15 verse one. A soft answer turns away. Ron by the harsh word stirs up anger is all your anger in your home is stirring up anger in your children.

Is this man berating his son because he is not performing in the sport the way the father would like something very very common.

Sadly is going to breed resentment in the sun. The sun didn't respond but I'm sure internally. There was great frustration and in many cases when notice anger it produces harsh return harsh words stir up anger. Careful how you speak, particularly to children, man, particularly to your wives, particularly to your brothers and sisters in Christ. Sometimes it is best when someone is angry simply refuse to respond member when Jesus was unjustly criticized what he knew him silently when he was reviled, reviled not in return when he was threatened. He opened not his mouth ever had someone just venting at you. But anger guesses it is true in certain cases a soft answer turns away wrath, but in other cases is best not to return as a young attorney. We were we were taught when we had unreasonable clients who are phoning us are drunk a little too much scotch and were unhappy and were taking a phone call that if they started ranting and swearing.

We would say something like no referring to the person's name.

Once you've regained your equilibrium will continue this conversation but if you continue to speak like this. I'm in a put down the telephone before unreasonable.

Clients these were people who could not control themselves. No point in answering someone like that was out of control. The best thing usually is to terminate the conversation. Anger do you reflect over the last month and experience of anger in your life. Yes you can think of others thinking of yourself in a any situations where you've been angry over the last month. Just think of them will you angry about tomorrow. Angry about reveals a lot about us. Doesn't it.

There's a man angry that his son isn't going to be the Olympics are part or wherever he was angry about people are angry at work people are angry at sport. What were angry about reveals a lot about this doesn't politics or personal opinions. The fact that we didn't get our way. What what were you ticked off about tells a lot about you, doesn't it is your anger being appropriate, yes, is it an appropriate time to anger with. We discussed that what is your anger appropriate to honor God. Masculine your anger hurting innocent people such as your children, your home, your husband, your wife colleagues at work, friends, is it affecting other people reason I feel so strongly about this subject of an organ angry by the will and the reason I feel so strongly about this over the years I've seen treatment. This devastation yes and Christian homes over anger said in looking up this week is not saying that women are angry. They have their own deceitfulness and sinfulness is not that they are less sinful than men, but men are certainly more prone to anger and my experience more prone to shouting to bullying, to pushing to physical anger have you send in your anger. Have you allowed your emotions to take over our view with me back to Proverbs, first of all. Proverbs 14, Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, in your Bibles programs. First of all chapter 14 verse 29. Here are three good versus for you to write nine is a new Bible. I got in August, but I've already underlined these verses in my Bible, Proverbs 14 verse 29 whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is a hasty temper exalts folly.

You know little bit about Proverbs.

There's the wise person and then there's a fool they are contrasted the wise person is slow to anger is Jim's expression in James one is slow to anger your wives hasty temper your foolish you exalts folly. Turn to chapter 50 racing chapter 15 verse one. A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger verse 18 hot tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger clients contention angry persons.

Often, a troublemaker by individual is the stirs up strife, he never happy and like she's in the middle of a battle in the game prides himself that he is the kind of individual who speaks his mind is really foolish is hot tempered, but here is slow to anger clients contention. Chapter 29 Proverbs 29 again similar point brothers 2922. Amano Roth stirs up strife, but one and one given to anger causes much transgression you are anger causes much transgression.

Your anger, my anger causes a lot of damage. Damage people tremendously. They may never say it's they may listen to your anger with Otis at work or in your relationships in your home, but your anger is causing much transgression, much damage to her angry was usually talking rather than listening when you're angry. Good thing is the stop slow to anger. Click to hear. So Lord is to be slow to anger, excellent advice isn't a bank to Ephesians chapter 4. Our main text Ephesians 4 verse 26 be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger was Paul saying resolve your anger quickly.

Yes, don't stay angry.

Do you really expect life always to go your way by driving here this morning. Is it reasonable to expect that ongoing have every green light coming in my past that I'm coming to preach the Bible me I should do every green lights and I want to die so some guy in front of me switched lanes didn't indicate minimus is diving is terrible. What should I do chided them is reasonable for you to expect is going to be no traffic delays in Charlotte. The rush-hour is only babies who expect life to go smoothly uncomfortably and conveniently. Life is full of irritations of setbacks and disappointments life has people letting us down. Just as you let people done.

People around you are sinful. Just as you are. Learn to deal with it.

Don't be immature. Stop outbursts of anger. It's a mature is childish. It's inappropriate is a poor example for you when you're driving your car, your wife and your children and it for you to be shouting, even swearing and cursing because of what some other driver does stop it when we don't quickly resolve anger and resentment and bitterness quickly spring up breathing on your anger, and repeatedly go but going over in your mind by the wrong cost to you bills even more anger. That's the problem. This is bad for us. Paul is saying no resolve it quickly. Don't let the sun go down on your drive, which is a metaphorical way of saying yes in some cases, you are going to be angry, but when that happens, make very careful that you don't send in your anger because it's such a powerful emotion and deal with it quickly allowed to fester than anger like poison in the home is joyousness in the home was a sadness in the home. There's a bad atmosphere in the home. What caused it.

Anger continues day after day after day after day, your anger causes heart frustration in others is bad for your health. Any doctor will tell you that is bad for your health is bad for the health of others.

Most of all, it's against God in a perfect individual you really expect those around you to be perfect you expect to live and work with perfect people really expect that you say some of the people around me in my home work and not Calvary are very irritating. Yes, I know that was a lot of irritating people here just like you and me using uterine you think these people are irritating to work with using difficult we go to work with you and people have to work and live with me.

Part of it is called maturity. Use of a very sensitive person as if the rest of us are not sensitive when people say that health and think it's just the revealing of their own pride. The run immaturity. The desire to be treated differently from everyone else being so-called quote sensitive is no excuse for your anger.

Some of Proverbs 29 verse 11 a man's discretion makes him slow to anger and edited his glory to overlook a transgression. Peter says in first Peter for love covers a multitude of sins. Yes, you live and work and serve with difficult irritating people. It's called sin, love covers a multitude of sins you're working with a difficult person. Do you have to bring to their attention. Every little problem overlook the slides. It is his glory to overlook a transgression resolve your anger quickly, maturely, don't make a big issue I develop my durational makeup. Among tonight of a molehill.

Love is patient, love is kind. Verse 27.

Nothing is fascinating how Paul writes this and give no opportunity to the devil.

This is very significant. The devil once you angry. The devil wanted pain angry, so angry that he killed his brother. So when you're angry. The devil is quite happy. He loves rage arguments.

Dissection shouting, cursing, lies the seats pulsated not be angry. I don't seem to let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity for the devil. When there is an unresolved anger when there's anger in the home to me is like opening the front door of your home and advising the devil and coming devil where an angry home and be very welcome here. Come in with vulnerable women angry. We do the devils work because this unity because strife because slander because accusation the devil is a great salon that are the father of lies.

The accuser of the brothers, the deceiver anger. Think of the problems in the homes in relationships and charges in the workplace. When anger is not handled in a biblical way.

Anger destroys the unity of the body and grieves the Holy Spirit, versus 2930 again let no corrupting talk come I don't your mind's quickly the men men in the conducting talker might or might we as a society of going down is in the people use the so-called F bomb as if it was just nothing as a boy. We hardly heard that word no is heard all of the time and people don't think anything about it, it's corrupt. Novo got a days in your speech.

As followers of Jesus Christ. We are to elevator speech don't speak like the unbeliever don't use their terminology. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mind, but only such as good for building up, as fits the occasion build up one another, that it may give grace to those who hear and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Whatever ends use your words to devastate people, words of corruption of accusation file blasphemous slander all through your speech. Paul says no, no, that grieves the Holy Spirit, their follower of Jesus Christ were indwelt with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit produces peace, Paul says at the end of verse 29 that it may give grace to those who hear their people.

When you spring weather they are speaking words of grace, words of truth. Words of comfort, words of healing words of unity and harmony and peace I should happen man in your home as you as you lead your family. I should happen in the relationships that many people are destroyed, how many people are damaged in all kinds of ways through corrupting speech, don't do that build up one another. The world wants to cursing shouts slander we the people of God to be characterized by peace you say.

Well I can help John that this is who I am, please, and aerobic and all machine you get what you want with difficult situations present themselves as God for his wisdom and strength. Self-control is part of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 there, Paul describes the works of the flash which includes anger and shouting and run, but part of the fruit of the spirit is self control. James is going to tell us that tells you a lot about a person is to have the speaker below control of your speech.

Don't grieve the Holy Spirit's the spirit come talk control. Yes you can, under the Lordship of Christ.

You can control your speech. Sometimes people can even pretend to be angry or used anger to intimidate or to get what they wants the true we rarely express anger to someone, we respect a lot afraid of you may feel you treated badly work you control your anger at work but when you go home. What you do you kick the cat you showed that your your kids you to get out in your of your wife, because you're so frustrated and instead of an appropriate way of dealing with your anger working dealing with the situation you bottle it up and you dump it on those who don't deserve it. Anger is a deadly sin was the solution rather than being angry look at verse 31 let all bitterness and wrath and anger and, in slander be put away from him asking you to do that today my speed to put it away from you, along with all malice be kinds to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.

How would your children.

Describe your I would your husband or your wife describe as regards anger. I would your coworkers describe you. You say your follower of Jesus Christ. Those who know you I would need. How would they describe with describe you as a person of anger or with the describe your someday who is gentle and kind and forgiving.

Be gentle and kind and forgiving wonderful wonderful tent to live and work with kind people is wonderful to work with people who are forgiving is you kinds you gentle with others sobbing within your own home. Yes I believe in discipline but it's to be loving and and and kinds and gentle.

What about this anger, verse 31 it is to be put away from you, Paul. In this passage is telling us to put off certain things and put on certain things back to verse 22. Put off your old self. Verse 24.

Put on the new self verse 25. Put away falsehood and now here put away this wrath and anger and clamor and slander bows using this metaphor of close you got these old dirty filthy clothes. Problem is, you're quite comfortable with the mayor to be put away your follower of Jesus Christ you to put on other qualities. The anger, the enemy, the pride all these deadly sins. The put away and now you have to be put on something else you can be close with lots kindness truth, love, tenderness, forgiveness, wonderful. You can choose to hold on to your anger or put it away cautiously. Verse eight, but no St. Paul you must put them all away to image, imagery, anger, wrath, mama, slander, and obscene. Talk from your mouth again. The mode is to be under the control of the spirit of God, not Paul English and see as we saw last week dealing with envy.

He tells us that the Christian is united with Jesus Christ. Yes, we are sinful but the parlor and the dominion of sin and the Christian has been broken. That's Romans six yesterday.

Still, indwelling sin. I still have the flash.

I still have the potential to be angry, but the power of that in my life is been broken by a mark by my Lord Jesus Christ.

I have died to sin. I am united with Christ, seek the things which are above why are you going back to that old lifestyle yes before you came to Christ, you behave like that why you going back to it. You need to put it off decisively to lisinopril here, and no food on the lot, put on my Lord Jesus Christ's to receive his forgiveness you received the forgiveness of God. Notice what Paul says in the 32, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. Your anger is not without the cross of Christ to realize that God is anger because of arson is angry with the wicked every day whether sin is such that dogs says Paul in Romans 18 that the wrath of God. As a result is revealed against all unrighteousness of men went under the ready wrath of God. The anger of God because of our sin weight is the only place of safety not doing behavior modification, but by claiming the forgiveness which our Lord Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross. The only protection from the judgment of God. The wrath of God. The anger of God is find that the cross our Lord Jesus Christ made propitiation. He bore the wrath of God on himself in the tree so that I will receive Christ that that powder is not broken because my Lord Jesus Christ.

Not only is died for my sin is risen and he is alive and on the cross. He bore my anger. He bore my sin comes across all of that single received the forgiveness of sin in him St. Paul.

We have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, we come to the cross and received his forgiveness and now as I have received his forgiveness. I'm to forgive others as he has been kind to me. I'm to be kind to others as he is being tender with me.

I'm to be tender with others filled with his spirit.

Some of you been counting on that business for many years. I understand that some of you come from terrible home. Some of you were abused and exploited children. Others of you of how the unfaithful spouse is walked out to the new others of other close friend who betrayed you some of you been defrauded a lot of money in a business enterprise. Some of you struggle with a debilitating health condition. Some of you been like done badly by people and your you're very angry you feel you been hurt so badly that you almost of right to be angry. You then anger that wrong that was perpetrated on you, which was terrible doesn't justify your bursts of anger and not to seek revenge to stop to stop jumping away that anger is Scriptures telling you that bitterness that resentment when this happens it grows and grows and grows and it will dominate your relationships. People get tired hearing your story of your heart what you to do with it delayed that lay dying of the cross that burden of anger that burden of bitterness. Some of you have held it far too long and I'm asking you based on this Scripture to put it away to put it down on the cross and received God's forgiveness. It's time to deal decisively with that sin in your life, think, think of the difference of the difference in your home.

Think of the difference in your relationships, anger in that region that bitterness and that sentient been wrong. Do not desire for revenge and that desire text to pay back in. You see yourself is this tolerable victim. Instead of that, Julie. During the cross. You're going to be an individual who displays tenderness who display displays God's grace, who displays God's love. What difference that will make in your office. Whatever friends I will make in your home, think, think of the difference in your relationships. I'm asking you to end your anger to come to the cross. Yes, you need to repent of the seven-member last week is that of the inmate you got to say you've got to acknowledge that saying I am the sinner I am an angry man unit.

The salmon angry woman, an angry young man named the sin if you have never yet been saved – you to come to Christ.

Yes, with all your all your bitterness of all of your hates to repent of it to turn from it and see the love of God's God so loved you, that he gave his only son but if you believe in him, you will not perish but you have ever lasting life.

Why don't you trust the Savior. If you aren't a follower of Christ returning the anger is impacted your home, you can remove the damages caused. With God's forgiveness and with his power. You can change through this put it how you act now and in the future, God's will for your life is for that anger to go to be put off to put on kindness, tenderness and love about argument, weakness, talking about turning you into some kind of spiritual wimp. No one wants that kind of individual we want strongman strong woman strong young man, a strong young woman with those who are characterized by love and grace were going to close by saying you do for him. It's an old hymn when my favorites burdens are lifted, the burden yes you got burden of anger. Burden of bitterness. I want you to come later in the cross you do that it's time today man in particular dressing you but also the woman, it's time to stop this time to claim the forgiveness of God is time to ask the spirit of God as you submit to his Lordship to say this will and I'm going to be a man is characterized by love and grace.

Lord forgive me. Repent of my anger. I leapt on board and I've been trying lay dying on the cross help me know to live when you do that may ask you to pray with me in your own heart you know the response that needs perhaps you need to confess that anger perhaps one of your own children to expose to a friend. But above all to leapt on the cross because burdens are lifted at Calvary. Father is read your words, we are convicted.

We know that all sins are deadly because the wages of sin. At that point, your gift Jesus Christ is forgiveness, redemption and salvation. Some heroes never come to Christ draw them to the Savior. I pray many here are followers of Christ would have struggled with this and I pray father with all of us will be the Scripture and that we will put it away, put on this kindness. This grace is forgiveness.

We thank you for the cross of Christ father by this by ourselves, we could never control these questions by ourselves. These sins would damn us for all of eternity. But we thank you that you've come not to judges but to save us time to for the wonderful cross of Christ. I pray for each person. May we lay that down though not the cross we pray in Christ
