Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church broadcast our desire is for the word of God spread throughout all me know join is now for a portion of one of our services here at Kerwin Baptist Church located in Kernersville, North Carolina today. I like to preach on the subject facing failure facing failure glasses. Have you ever, I don't mean failed at a sport, or failed at a job I've ever failed spiritually. My the only one fear failed in Psalm 51 is very important to know Smitty you know this, but let me just explain David King David. You know the store. Let me just say there might be some for the don't let me explain. King David was at war and David should've been a battle, but David was so David was at home is the king when the king should've been on the battlefield and there was a man in his army whose wife was at home. That man was out at war working. David should've been that man's wife was named Bathsheba, and while David was at home where he shouldn't of been the Bible says that on her rooftop. He saw her bathing begin the lust after her and he being the king decided he wanted her, and he did that, which is obviously not right. She got pregnant and when that happened, he decided he was going to try to find some way to hide that. So he called his right hand man Joe Abbott. He said I want you to go to the battle get her husband bring him back when he comes back to send him home thinking that if he's been at Babylon. He goes home that if she ends up pregnant that everybody would think it's his child. But he was such an honorable man that when he came home, knowing that his friends were in battle. He never went to his wife. He slept at the king's door to guard him. So now David's little excuses little plan didn't work so I sent him to the battlefield had him killed so years transpiring different things have happened and all of a sudden Amanda God comes to David one day his name was Nathan the prophet, and when Nathan comes in he begins to tell David the story about a man that had a lamb and raise the lamb and but a rich ruler came in and stole that lamb out right from his hands and David heard the story, and he began in the recycle time not contain the entire store. But when David heard it baby looked at me, said Nathan, the man of God.

The property said you tell me who that is. And I'm gonna punish him and Nathan the prophet looked and he put that finger right in his face. He said David thou art the man for the first time David was slapped in the face with the fact that everybody knew by the way, God knows everything that we do need to look to David and he said, God said that you were going to restore that land know what you're gonna pay for this fourfold that maybe that Bathsheba had it died.

That was the first that was the first thing had to pay for then David had a daughter who was raped by her brother and that was the second thing is you go through David's life. You see all way up to the culmination when Absalom morning when Absalom was killed his own son that came after him.

As David for his whole life restore this fourfold and in Psalm 51. This is David's repentance at what he had done. Nathan had just come in and told him God knows what you've done, you're the man that did this and you will answer for in Psalm 51.

This is David's repentance. Now let me ask you again. Have you ever failed spiritually will have an Apple will while we just talk about what we have done any of us like to bring it up about you.

I have some seekers I want to keep them that way. Some of you due to nobody has secrets with God. What you do when you fail so I guess I just have to give up done wrong failed. So what you do well. It's wonderful that the Bible teaches a doctrine and is called the doctrine of repentance.

And that's when you are faced with the fact that I've done wrong of sin. Now what is your reaction to that going to be, you know, in the man of God points a finger figuratively at some people and says you're the center of the center you done wrong in their face with the truth of God's word. Some people rebel against that distinctive Truman was going on. Distracting me.

I know it's distracting you. Some people rebel. Some people say will not go back to that church and by the way, we have churches nowadays it on ever preach against sin and they don't ever talk about doing wrong and they don't ever mention the fact you have to face what you've done and there is there is an answering and there is a punishment for sin they want to talk about that because I don't want people to be offended and they want everybody just love coming to church and have a wonderful time and never feel bad never feel guilty but cannot say some different we are responsible by God to teach what God's word said. Now why is this important before read the passages I want to let you know. The interesting thing about this passage. The first 13 verses want to deal with this morning and will be brief, but I've separated them in the three things I have read Psalm 51 on the how many times what I Doug and Doug and Doug and Doug in this chapter, especially this week and I find three different areas and and I'll tell you why it's so interesting to me.

In verses one through five.

It deals with our conscience. Verses six through 10 it deals with our heart and then in verse 10 through 13.

It deals with our spirit, they say, why is that important. Look up her amulet explain this. The Bible says that you and I were created in the image of God cannot say something you and I don't look like God. You know that God did look like you.

You don't look like God. So what is that mean what it means is we were created in the image of God.

It means this we all know that God is a Trinity we've explained this before. The Lord is the Godhead we call it it it it it it consists of three individuals, God the father, God the son God the Holy Spirit.

But those three individuals are the same person means this season. I don't make sense to me with a lot of things in the Bible will make sense to you, but that's what faith is all about.

That means this is God the father, God the son God the Holy Spirit. God the father is the father. He's been in heaven and God the son, Jesus Christ was the son he came to earth to die for our sins, he became man and yet while he was man. He was still God, but he was man also. So Jesus took on a human form and he came and died on the cross for our sins. He was the only one of the Godhead that could because God the father is God and God the father cannot look on sin or God wouldn't be holy and so therefore Jesus the son, the spirit couldn't come died on the cross for our sins, because the Holy Spirit to spirit any can't be a man.

He could be human. And so, God the son, Jesus Christ willingly gave himself died on the cross for our sins, God the father had turned his head he could look on the son when Jesus died in the cross for our sin, but after Jesus died and he rose again.

Now Jesus purchased our pardon be covered our sins. Now our relationship with God the father can be restored. Now you and I have access to God the father, not because of anything we've done were sinful people, but because Jesus died for our sins. He's purchased our redemption. Now we can access the father but the Holy Spirit is the third member of the Godhead and the Bible says that Jesus when he was here on earth looked at his believers and his disciples and he said I must go to heaven but I will not leave you comfortless so I'm going to give you the comforter, the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit lives inside of our hearts, and he says it's expedient for you that I go and leave him. That is how wonderful the role of the Holy Spirit is Jesus said now that I purchased your sin is more important for you to have the Holy Spirit and have me Your Honor wow, now is your head ready to explode yet so you and I were created in the image of God. That means is you and Ira Trinity. Did you know that that's what it means we are created we all have a body soul and spirit that consist of this we have a mind we have a will and we have emotions and those very three things if you termed them differently.

That means is we have a conscience. We have a heart we have a spirit so when David here is repenting and Psalm 51 listener, you gotta get this. That means this is true Bible repentance involves the mind, the heart and the spirit. Let me illustrate how many times those who had been at church a long time somebody preaches God begins to move.

You feel guilty for the sum of things you've done, by the way, we ought to feel guilty for some reason enters I go, I will people feel guilty were supposed to feel guilty. Do you want your child to feel guilty when they steal something in there eight years old. Don't you want them to feel guilt feels I well want to feel bad, you know well you to be with him in jail for the next 20 years. Then you want and that it wasn't were supposed to get because we do wrong. That's what were supposed to feel. But listen to much you how many times you are in and service your preaching you come to an altar. You know why because your conscience told you I've done wrong. How many times have you and I knelt altar say, God, I'm sorry for such such and within three days or sometimes within an hour after leaving church were right back doing the same thing with a wife because we really didn't repent our mind got into repentance, but our heart never did the understand. So David here had repented numerous times, but now he was serious and true repentance always involves the conscience. The heart and the spirit of malice, look at this so you can understand it because I want you to really understand this past week view in verse one says this, have mercy upon me. Oh God, according to thy lovingkindness. According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions washed me through leave from on iniquity, cleanse me from my sin, for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me against VV only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight, that thou might is be justified when thou's biggest and be clear when no judges behold I was shaping in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me to listen to me. The Bible says this that you and I are conscience can be seared with a hot iron. It means this, you and I can get to the point we can send so much and so often that we don't even feel bad about it anymore. Okay David exhibiting in these first five verses is this his conscience was not so seared that he did not feel guilt he felt guilt notice. If you would number one in verse one. He at its if it's a call for mercy. He says this, have mercy upon me. Oh God, according to thy lovingkindness. According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. What it Davis conscience tell him I have transgressed. I've done wrong and can I say this when he when you are faced in your mind. I've done wrong and you know what I've done some things are just not right. I am here to say the first thing that fact that you feel guilty about is a good sign. That means at least you still have a conscience and Bible here says that David had a conscience. In his first reaction was that because I feel bad. God I need mercy and can I say this when you done wrong and what I've done wrong and what all God's children done wrong. What we need is God's mercy we have is mercy, we would have nothing to's expression. My grammatically correct was biblically correct when you have anything in one for his mercy. So first thing David says God your loving kindness, which means this is a loving kindness.

It means it extends further than it should have to and God your manure multitude of mercies and God are a merciful God and I and by the way David knew that God is a holy God.

He just got told you have the answer for his sin but he said I know they are holy and I know you're just but I also know they are merciful and God I need mercy. Notice second verse two he has a call for forgiveness weavers to washed me frugally from on iniquity, cleanse me from my sin and I say this that when you and I are faced with the fact I've failed spiritually. We immediately need to ask for God's mercy. Then we immediately second need to ask God to forgive us, God, cleanse me from my sin, God, police forgive me. I've done wrong.

This is still the conscience folks because how many times have we got down the altar was a God I'm sorry I need mercy please forgive me and we went right back home and do the same thing.

So were still in the conscience state it still is conscience still the mind were dealing with. And David says God I need forgiveness I need your mercy. Please read me notices verse three through five.

There's a call for mercy and call forgiveness. But now we see him coming clean notice verse three for I acknowledge my transgressions that day was awful what's what's hard for an individual. Sometimes they just won't admit that they've done it soon as they're faced with what they've done. We know you and I often do we try to blame somebody for you.

Treaty treated your wife like a dog well because she no matter what she or anybody you treat her like a dog at your fall yeah but she try to shoot me. Who cares. You do not need to get away or gettable prevent something, was doing what it what is our immediate reaction many times is reason I give you reason why we did wrong is not my fault is because of my childhood and that big nowadays because because of the way I was raised and I had a dysfunctional family. I would love to see a functional family. One time, I've never seen a dysfunctional family functional family must be much robots because were humans we all had dysfunctional family. Yes, some are worse than others, and you some of you experience things we could even mention this morning not talking about that. I'm saying that we can't keep blaming everybody else. David said I acknowledge my transgressions, not somebody else is not my bare mama lives, not my family well you treated I messed people up because my wife is what good to be home. Well, she did meet my needs. David and blame his wife.

He didn't blame anybody.

He said my transgressions quiet. Notice this, that he acknowledged his sin. Notice of you would verse three he said my sin is ever before me. This is great this if you've ever seen this in this passage David said I acknowledge my transgressions, and he said this my sin is ever before me, which means this I'm never going to be able to get away from the memory of the sin that I say this though, only sin. God forgives us what can I say part of the penalty of sin is we can't forget it's always there. But let me take the best thing about this passage, David said, my sin is ever before me. He didn't say is ever before God is he is nice to know.

Hey Heidi, I can't forget some things but David said it's always before me, but is not always before God, because God wipes the slate clean stars God's concern you been forgiven as far as God's concern that sin is as far as these is from the last. And while you might be able to get it out of your mind finds you glad it's out of the mind of God, you're forgiven, your client list we find here.

He acknowledged his sin.

But notice if you would verse four pieces against the, the only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight, that thou might just be justified when thou speak is to be clear when they'll judge this is what David said God I want you know I know I've sinned against you and I know I did you wrong. So when it comes time for you to judge me and when it comes time for you to give the sentence he said got emotional. I understand because I did it to you. You have a right to judge me. So we find I don't acknowledge his sin. But second he acknowledged his sentence he said all right God you can speak to me. You can judge me because I've done wrong to you the same as God.

You have all the right in the world to sentence me. I cannot say this God has all the right in the world to sentence us notice.

If you would thirdly that he acknowledged a sinful nature we give you would verse five he said, behold, I was shaping iniquity in the sin did my mother conceive me. David said got I've been a sinner since I was born. You know that you and I have a sinful nature.

I was talking with Phil this week. It was found that Levi Lee was on the best babies I've ever seen and you know we just good-natured, but they're already dealing with things and Phil was saying that you know I believe I was playing with in the floor something in Phil had told no, no and handed him a choice I don't do this, basically, but let Levi describe that thing and fill in the form and just a bit who had to teach them to do that. Nobody you know why worse and worse. Babies know how to sin.

They know I cannot say the same as it had been, as I thought this battle. My whole life, still dealing with the conscience notice.

If you would secondly we do with the heart would verse six if you would David said, behold, thou who is he talking to God, he said, behold, thou desirous of truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

This is great. What David is saying the trip down the altar caught on the wrong got on the mercy God I need forgiveness. I acknowledge my sin. I acknowledge that you can judge me and I know I have a sinful nature. That's all in the mind of so many times you and I get to that point and we sell rightly get him out of the altar. We go back to see me go home and live the same way, but David said God what you desire is not just for me to admit a sinner and minimize sin.

Asking for mercy asking forgiveness. David said God what you desire is true in the inward part.

That's when repentance begins, not just I know I've done wrong but now I'm honest with myself, David said God you'll just want this outward sacrifice in the outward show coming to an altar. What you want is true on the inside and that's where I think you and I struggle we still have this act, we still have this thing I know how supposed to do it and I know I'm supposed to look, but it's not really us on the inside and we made a trip after trip to the altar and we sentence the family sin always got wrong and I'm sorry and I know I've done wrong. We think are some great Christian because we feel wrong that you feel wrong, but that doesn't fix it. What God is truth on the inside to be right. Many times in our churches are independent Baptist churches. We oftentimes worry so much on the outside and we should we skip the heart were right on the outside but our heart is cold. David said God, you desire truth on the inside that means this in verse six he says, first you desire an honest heart and honest heart can ask you, dear friend could be here how long you been here how good you look at how people think about you this to be the sum of us need to come to the realization I am a wrong center and I've been sinning against God, I'm saying and I'm not a miniature friend for years. My heart's not right and I haven't had a ride and I'm being called. Maybe you need an honest heart is. That's what God wants. When God get us off our high horse and think you were some that were not lettuces get right down where the rubber meets the road and admit I've been lying to myself on the line. The people of them put on his show went on God got things in my life I'm hiding.

I'm guessing that they are not dealing with nothing. A church growth. Invitations. Revival nothingness, God moving like dishonest parts notice. If you would secondly number seven. He said, purge me with the hyssop, and I shall be clean, wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow basis. Secondly, God, you want a holy heart visa, purge me, make me clean you whiter than snow.

Holy say got I got a bunch of junk about the mess in that heart of mine and got I know you want an honest heart and God.

I know that you desire a holy heart. So God clean me out make me whiter than snow.

God help me deal with some of this mess in my heart cannot say this, that holiness has left our church but had left God still what he desires. He desires honest hearts, and he desires holy hearts. Then he says this in verse eight. Make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice is a God, you had to judge me and you had to do some things to me you had to break some bones, but God if you just bring back that joy to my life so that these bones that you broken could rejoice once again. That means this. Third, God wants a happy heart. He said David said God I just I need that happiness back and he that joy of serving you. My heart cannot say this a heavy heart will not last long. I don't mean heavy because you lost a level not mean heavy because you go to trial. I mean heavy from sin and I'm here to say a heavy heart.

Before long we'll quit coming to church quit reading the Bible could sing in the choir quit serving quit shrink with everything because sin shocks out of David said not on target.

Bearing this burden having a heavy heart I need to have a happy heart once again. I need to be able to come to not have all the guilt of all the things I've done this week for being a fake and some got I needed to, charged with a clear conscience and know that I'm serving you and am trying to do was write happiness to our there's no more miserable person than a Christian.

That's not right with God want to notice. Lastly, what he says in verse nine he says hide thy face from my sins, blot out all my iniquities. He says for thing God wants an honorable heart honorable said you know what God I just I can just get the stuff out of my life's blot out these iniquities make me honorable once again make me a vessel, the Bible says unto honor God says I can use a clean vessel they possess of what you use me again.I have an affiliate using me. I remember the victories you gave me over Goliath and I remember the victories you gave me over the line and over the bear and I remember all the phase when Saul was trying to chase me when Saul is trying to kill me and you May say you gave me a kingdom and you made me clean me as a little boy, and you probably a place as God.

I remember when you use a large amount why you can't work anymore. I live God, you will you maybe a vessel you could use again older Sunday school teacher has God been moving in your class.

I mean really parent has God moving your house. Could it be that there's some sand there some things that are in our lives and family put on a show to convince people that were okay, let's get honest. Let's come clean and say God I need to get this right tired bearing this burden notice as we drove to an inlet verse 10 create in me a clean, what heart will go.

We see the conscience seen the heart notice if you were the end of verse 10 is right when he swaps the introduces the new subject. He said created me a clean heart, O God finished subject and renew a right what spirit within me want to deal with just few minutes on the spirit will be done. Verse 11 cast me not away from my presence take not by Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free.

What spirit then will I teach transgressors thy ways sinners shall be converted and he let me say this to let you go close to me.

Number one spirit, our spirit always needs acceptance, our spirit needs acceptance notice what he says first cast me not away from my presence. Nothing will burden a person's spirit, then more than rejection, and now we've left the conscience. Now we've left the heart and when you finally get the heart right then you realize because of all this said in your life your spirits been damaged and now got my heart right I realize I haven't been wanting to serve God and I have a heavy spirit. I haven't had the joy of God and I have enjoyed serving him and I have enjoyed church I sit there and I don't get one thing and dear friends and diet that I know I'm not a good preacher and I know the good pastors but I'm not been doing God's work for an unknown reason why God wants me to preach editor not getting anything that might be that our heart is cold.

You only blame the preacher so far for the problem might be a drone doorstep while you welding on your fridge while you: I don't like is why like that we don't blame everybody else and still save God in my transgression to my fall to my sin. Spirit always needs acceptance in the days of the nothing will discourage a teenager more than to feel rejected by his peers. As you have teenagers at home, society is messed up right now you have teenagers don't feel accepted by people more the do the go to a boyfriend or girlfriend for except mom and I don't have time, their busy work and trying to buy things. No go find acceptance in a God or a girl. No go, but will go find acceptance in a group logo find acceptance in the worst possible place.

There is no why because our spirit needs acceptance is nothing more discouraging to an individual even an adult than to feel rejection notice. Second, our spirit needs fellowship he says is cast me not away from my presence notices take not by Holy Spirit from me. He said David said God, please don't take a Holy Spirit for me. We know God won't, but David saying this is the only fellowship I have is with the Holy Spirit, by the way what is the Holy Spirit live inside of you, so we can fellowship with God through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

That Holy Spirit is what gives us a conscience that Holy Spirit is what let us know. Hate is not right what you're doing is there something missing in your life.

There's something that's not quite right that the Holy Spirit listen to me when you and I don't read our Bible, we don't pray we don't converse with God. We have lack of fellowship with us. David said don't take that way the spirit needs fellowship was why do you get discouraged.

As a Christian. Often times we haven't spent time with God. You know why because the spirit needs fellowship. Our spirit is member we are body soul and spirit are spirit needs fellowship. Thank you for listening to you received a blessing from our broadcast.
