We were going from there to big sky, Montana.

There's a highway that goes out of West Yellowstone to go straight up to big sky, but it goes still staying through the park when you go to the park. There are no lights. There are no dwellings for a long stretch of that journey and it was snowing heavily when we got there we left West Yellowstone and the lights were still super bright all the stuff that we drove up and also in boom all the lights were gone and you're driving on this road and this kid it's covered with snow.

I mean covered with snow and the snow was pouring downriver that scene when you first saw Star Wars with a window hyperspace in the lights, came at you and you know it was just such an amazing moment in the movie theater. Well that's what it felt like we were driving and so so drive down there and there's there's a lot of people leaving and I'm kind of followed along these people look at their taillights and I'm can fall because you could see the road and one by one, though it I think it must've done all of us and that caravan of cars leaving that we were all looking at the taillights and trusting that that person front of us knew where they were going, but I knew that the Gallatin River and the wilderness to easily get off the road you're in trouble and I thought okay do I know if these people are doing what they need to be doing nothing to do they know where they're going and I one by one know everybody kept pulling off and letting everybody else pass them in pursuit. I found myself in the lead of driving, the road of got the kids are asleep in the back. Gracie's dozing off and I'm holding on to the steering wheel for dear life because I truly cannot see more than one reflector in front of me. It is these big tall reflectors that they put double-decker reflectors out there on this highway and I couldn't see anything past that there's one on either side of the road. I knew for stay between those I'd be on the road and that's all I had and I did that for many many miles drive to the snow that's pretty normal for everybody out here Montana on a regular basis, but it was my first time doing it.

It was a little bit nerve-racking and eventually we saw the lights of a big sky we get there everything was okay. What's the lesson learned from this is a carrier I think it's pretty obvious to you, me and everyone else that sometimes all we have is one reflector at a time so we get and is long as we stay. You know, guided by that reflector real estate in the road. Reflectors are put there for a reason that we as caregivers like to live way down the road we like to worry about what's coming. We believe we are certain we know what's coming, but often times the light that we have is only for the next the next step. That word is a lamp to my feet when you're dealing with the uncertainties that you deal with as a family caregiver are you anchoring anchoring yourself in the word of God, to understand what your next step is now. I've looked through all of Scripture, and there is no place where it talks about a guy taking care of his wife with 80 surgeries both of her legs amputated so I can't go to Scriptures okay Lord so we go see this Dr. that's not it. What happens with us as caregivers, as we are so tort buyer fear by the by the by the string that we live under that we make. Sometimes rash decisions. We have to slow down slowed turn on our little beings you know that you when you drive in snow.

You don't have your high beams on your to turn on your low beams, you're only going to see what's right in front of in order to better deal with that you're going to have to just go slow and deal with the next step at a time. That sounds unpleasant and it can be, but it's not nearly as unpleasant as driving off into a river is not nearly as unpleasant as getting stuck in the snow.

You know, late at night in the middle of nowhere that's unpleasant and so we as caregivers can get ourselves stuck in some very tough situations. But God has set things for us to be able to look at it for paying attention. We can follow the reflectors that are there. So when you have bad news that comes in what you what's a reflector that puts you back on solid footing that that keeps you on the road. What is that reflector for you. What has God done in your life and in the and in communicated clearly in your life that you realize all this is where I'm supposed to be. This is safety because he doesn't just willy-nilly abandoned list of the things he is there with us. That's the whole point. That's what his name means a manual, God with us. He tabernacles with us.

I like to emulate his knowing that he is already there and it is not only with us but is already where were going to be going and and that the uncertainty is what plagues so many caregivers we we live torqued up in fear. I have a note here, this is your feeling guilty talk about my mom and go meet will list. Let's go back to what you feeling guilty feeling the way you feel you know all the things that you feel you've been through it you been cutting through the meatgrinder. Here the last couple of weeks and months, and so forth and you will not go. Did you should be getting the show when I was talk about driving on the snowy road you know it no point on that drive. Did I ever feel settled I was. I was gripped I had to pry my hands off the steering will when I got to where I was going. You know, because I was nervous the whole time I had everything everyone I love dearly, most dearly in this world were the car counting on me to get this right, but I intentionally paid attention to the reflectors and drove slowly and did the next right thing. It was an intentional decision. It was not haphazard out I did not just kind of wished myself into feeling more settled.

I just said okay I'm going to willfully and knowingly trust these reflectors in the right place. So as you feel guilty for this and that, I get it, but I would ask you to do intentionally just say to yourself, out loud you know God will make away where there seems to be no way he works in ways we cannot see it when you intentionally say that to yourself over and over and over you reminding yourself the truth you're speaking it out loud when you intentionally say that word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. You are doing what. There's a great story. She is free to go back and read it in the end Dixon first Samuel and David was on the run. King Saul was chasing him all over the countryside with those men and David had his men with him and the Amalekites came while they were all fight the battle and took all of David's family. You are looking at that next reflector and you're moving along this road however slowly, doesn't matter.

Slower the better. Sometimes what you don't don't don't put torture on yourself and think I need to be feeling this when he be feeling this way. Just declare it now that God will make away that his word is a lamp unto my feet that his grace is sufficient when you say these things your strengthen yourself. I held him and I was with him. What I appreciate is that were to happen now. I couldn't remember been in the same room. One touch them or anything that my food-it was snowing so hard and we were driving up to Canada and the snow was coming down so you can but there was a and in turn the lights off, and when Joe way from Germany to Sunol and stuff and we were on the cliff on their side and I learned right, people can learn something from no bite or whatever. I know I'm talking a lot though. It's okay. It's all right. I was thinking up at here where I live isn't in the Rockies, Montana love him And if you turn off the lights when there's a full menu to look like. So there's a full moon out here and you can see the snow on the ground. It is this it is clear it's actually clear the drive with your lights on.

Sometimes it it it is it is really stunning when you're out in the wilderness like this when you have a full moon.

What do you do with that guilt I knew it I and right now I'm a lot I talk to myself I my thought… I like that I can hear what I want to hear.

I don't got no no I don't and I told him that day and great and well it's it's an interesting dichotomy when you tell somebody that you don't believe in them and yet there you're telling them you didn't believe in and why would you be telling them and I so this is how I write and I get I like that kind that he doesn't do that now.

When you go to the facility run by core civic and you see the faces of these inmates that are working on prosthetic limbs that you have helped collect from all of the country that you put out the plea for and their disassembly sell these legs like what you have your own prosody and arms and orange everything when you see all this.

What do you make me cry because I see the smiles on their faces and I know I know what it is to be locked someplace where you can't get out without somebody else allowing you to get out course, being in the hospital so much and so long and so that these men are so glad that they get to be doing as as one man said something good family with my hands.

Did you know before you became an amputee that parts of prosthetic limbs could be recycled now had no idea and I thought a peg leg. I thought of wooden legs. I never thought of titanium and carbon legs and flex feet.

The legs and all that. I never thought about that as you watch these inmates participate in something like this, knowing that there there helping other people to walk the providing the means for the supplies to get over there. What is it due to you, just on the heart level. I wish I could explain to the world.

What I see in here and I wish that I could be able to go and say the this guy right here Denise go to Africa with that. I never not feel that way out every time you know you always make me have to leave. I don't want to leave them. I feel like I'm at home with them and I feel like that we have a common bond that would've never expected that only God could put together. Now that you've had experience with it what you think of the faith-based programs. The core civic offers.

I think they're just absolutely awesome and I think every prison out there should have faith-based programs like this because the return rate of the man that are involved in this particular faith-based program and other ones like it, but I know about this one are.

It is just an amazingly low rate compared to those who don't happen and I think that that says so much that has anything to do with me just has something to do with God using somebody broken to help other broken people.
