Many years ago our family met President George W. Bush when Gracie performed at an event with him.

Several weeks later, I had an opportunity to return to the same venue. Walking past the empty ballroom where the entire weight of the US Presidency stood briefly, the contrast struck me.

Unlike the President's office, Christ dwells within us and the full weight of HIS office never leaves, is never dismantled, and is not bound to geographical locations.

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him." - John 14:23

As a parade of commercials open with, “During these uncertain times …” eyebrows across the country must raise in a level of incredulity as millions silently whisper, “Welcome to my world!”

When times were “certain:”

  • Huge swaths of the country hemorrhaged financially long before COVID-19 became a household word.
  • Guilt lurked as a constant companion for parents of special needs children.
  • Marriages crumbled under the strain of disability.
  • Family members of alcoholics and addicts bore the heartbreak of a loved one’s volatile and unstable behavior.
  • Millions struggled to care for disabled loved ones and/or aging parents.
  • 22 Veterans committed suicide each day.
  • Fellow citizens felt the sting of discrimination.
  • Chronic pain persisted for so many plagued by disease or injury.
  • Death remained inevitable.

No politician, health official, or vaccine can provide us with certainty. We shore up the best we can while learning to make peace with ambiguity. We shake hands with uncertainty.  READ MORE ...

I will help some years ago Gracie and I had the opportunity to meet the present United States, George W. Bush, and was the first time I never met a sitting president and he was at an event in Nashville Tennessee where we lived. They asked Gracie to sing at this event and we showed up at this very very nice hotel with very familiar with this hotel and in its got to be far from us where we lived and we got to meet the present United States. Gracie setting for this thing and I noticed everywhere around was the trap in the of the trappings of the office of president that I went back to the hotel. A week later for another vent and there was nothing of the presidency.

There was an important take a quick break not tell you what this federal summary this is hope for the caregiver. 888-589-8841 so the president we were there with in the entire seat of power.

The United States was right there in that room because that's where the president was and or standing next to him and all the things that are going on and it was just as an extraordinary event and you see the podium using the seal you see all the Secret Service you see all the trappings of the office of President of the United States, and it it's it it was it was just it was an extraordinary event. I give her I'm never anything like that and and Grace did a great job and she saying and it was it was just wonderful that we had another opportunity to go to the Republican national convention open New York 2004, and she opened up one of the nights that convention and we were downstairs, and the holding area and they they put Gracie of whatever reason they put her in Arnold Schwarzenegger's dressing room. He was speaking that night where Arnold Schwarzenegger stressor because it was very elective, very cold in this thing and went in his office, waiting room is real nice, sweet downstairs and built out he wasn't getting from there to later on that night and so they put Gracie on their and it was really nice and comfortable for and in his suite was Dick's to the president's suite that he would have downstairs as well. So I peeked into their and I saw get all these trappings of the presidency. Laura was speaking that night and as well as we set with the president's father of former Pres. George W. Bush and you see all these trappings of this dilemma telling you this because in Isaiah 61 as I saw the Lord and he was high and lifted up in his train filled the temple. But when you go back to to that hotel in Nashville today.

You will not seek any of the trappings of the presidency of the United States and when you go back to Madison Square Garden's were were New York and go downstairs where we were below the states. There's nothing there of the presidency, but Scripture tells us that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that means that same God that same Savior that single Lord that Isaiah saw a picture of us was able to see that vision dwells in us and never has to remove the trappings of his office from us that same majesty is within us what you think about that for a moment and what that means to you as a family caregiver that means as you are doing all things which are doing is your kids with special needs is having a meltdown and you are struggling with this.

As you are struggling with caring for somebody who has dementia over or other issues going on with all those things and they may be cursing at you. They may be treating you poorly. All those kinds of things that seem Lord is right there with you through this with all that majesty that caused Isaiah to put his hand over his mouth, but because of what happened at the cross, you now are connected as a believer to all of that is dwelling in you. But it's hard to wrap our minds around.

That is particular warmer going through the more painful things of our life. But why is it important. Isolation is one of the most crippling things as a caregiver that we can face it is is one of the blame minds about.

Book 7 caregiver landmines and I discussed all the dead. That's why I do this show because as caregivers we get cut off from so much that were like that empty ballroom that no longer has any the trappings of the presidency. That's what we feel it would just like empty ballroom, but Scripture telling us exactly the opposite, that he is with this in all of his Majesty all of his glory all of his power. All of that is with this in these moments, we believe that I do hard to wrap your mind around it and we need to be reminded of that I affect him from a long standing conviction that we as caregivers don't need a lot of instruction, but we need a lot of reminders. I know I do. And so when we get into these places of despair of overwhelming sorrow and grief and frustration, and resentment and rage and loneliness and isolation all the things that we feel we could be we can be assured we could be strengthened. We can be comforted.

We could be in bold.

We can be fortified knowing that the entire weight of his glory and his Majesty is within us. That's the reality of the gospel. So when I was there with the president. I could tell you that I wasn't all that worried about anything and we we we spent the night when Grace and I were in New York.

At least we did this event.

We were in the.

The Waldorf-Astoria they put us up at the Waldorf-Astoria. I have it. I was it was it was a little bit surreal. I can tell you and that's a big upgrade for me. For me, go to that enough of the Super 8 Motel to the will. You Gracie's Gucci motivator Walmart has with Aquatech it will get that we it was it was an extraordinary event and I realized how safe we were in that in that building because there were security there was.

There were Secret Service everywhere and it was it was one of those things easy for like wow hours.

I'm in a fortress when sleep tonight or safe present was just upstairs several floors upstairs. I thought you know that but but but what does that mean as Christians is that picture appropriate for us as Christians I believe it is what Jesus was asleep in the boat and the disciples were freaking out and he's like guys do you not know how you get when it's I would say to you is my fellow caregivers do we not know who we have with us do not know who is with us in this everything you do as a caregiver. As you look at your child with special needs. As you take care of your aging parents as you mourn as you have that family member with addiction issues. As I watch my wife struggled with so much pain. The King of Kings and Lord of lords resides in us as we do these things that he grieves with this, but he's also working to restore all these things and make all this new and we trust him with it. When asked what I was standing there and that we go to the meet and greet with the president a lick of stuff all the Secret Service guys were directing us where to go and so forth and I follow their instructions without question, who takes it with your when you're around a bevy of sick at zero everyone over just extremely polite and graciously old and who we were, you know they do in the background stuff and all that but that you know you you you follow their instructions. You don't go off script when you're around the president, but we just throw that out there and the president may go off script but that's that's the presence responsibility.but they all knew me, they done their homework they knew who we were and they ushered us to the right place to do Gracie's limitations and so forth and everything was in place. How much more so with the King of Kings and Lord of lords.

He knows you. He knows you. He knows you. Why is it important to you. Why was important to me as caregivers. I didn't have to overthink this. I didn't have to to script it all out for for the Secret Service or anybody else. They had already had it all planned out. And these are flawed human beings were not dealing with the flawed human being, were dealing with Christ who knows you and he knows what you're caring right now is with you and it and that's what were doing the show to let you know that piece of information and remind you of that.

And I'm going to need you to call in and remind me of it because that's what we do for each other.

We remind each other of the six because we have not only caregiver amnesia, but we have gospel amnesia only to be reminded really a lot of instruction we need to be reminded. The gospel is not this complex mystery of things that we got to somehow wrapper mantra figure. We just accept the fact that he's with this and he says that over and over and over you with the greatest commandment in Scripture is can you guess which fear not, Toby, and he knows were afraid the cities with what does that mean that picture of the of all the trappings of the presidency of the United States and then multiply that times infinity. That's is with that decision with radiating 589-8840 885 in Roseburg back to hopefully caregiver here on American family radio 888-589-8840 if you will be a part of the show. 888-589-8840 and that this is the show that is committed to you as a family caregiver to equip you to stand firm in two to be at peace a little bit more, a little more hopeful and peaceful and restful, knowing that he who began a good work he was faithful to complete it to the day of Christ Jesus know anybody else says that to you may say well it's those are nice words.

You just don't understand. I'm 34 years into this is a caregiver through a medical nightmare, yet I do understand yeah I get it, and it is painful and I think that we spend a disproportionate amount, caregivers, grieving, what is Christ say Lisa's Blessed are those who mourn, come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you fish it out from this activity sleeps. I give you rest and in all these promises of Scripture didn't start making sense in the context of what you're caring but what is it look like to walk that out as caregivers every day. But is it look like when you're dealing with somebody who is treating you so poorly or when you feel like you're the one securing all this in your family members are are MIA for lack of better words, just not there with you anymore and you're just doing all this by yourself and your it at the end of your rope and you try to tie the knot and hang on these two things that are important to us as caregivers to delve into and then then put Scripture on it and anchor ourselves in debt. Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. Come unto me all you weary and heavy lane that will give you peace. Low I with you always, even to the ends of the world. Yay though I walk to the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art patient with me with me. I got an article. This could be in the Christian post tomorrow that it's it's called a swatch of these commercials.

It is this during these uncertain times during these everyone of herself during these uncertain times and it just really struck me when at times been certain for us in and you go back to your the fundamentals of your faith when when you're faced with all these things in this caregivers were faced with daily so that's why we have to go back and do this daily, hourly, there's a there's a him a put on my CD cells for the caregiver code.

I need thee every hour. The reason I put that on there because nobody's written saw this as I need thee every minute because this is this is our journey as caregivers we have to constantly remind ourselves of these otherwise we could offer the weeds somewhere if we get off of the weeds too far.

They will find ourselves in the wilderness. No bulimic.

This is what happened this morning. Go look at the news lady in Florida, she's been arrested now. She told everybody her son with autism ran off but she's been arrested for killing nine-year-old boy this is the despair in the dark places that we can go to when the suffering in the struggle in the despair overtakes us and this is why do the show because I want to go into those places with every tool that I have whether it's through the show through my books about podcast which is free to go out to website it subscribed that hopefully caregiver.com. It's all there, and I'm putting it out there as fast as I can to get this article briskly hit. Tomorrow I have a string of commentaries about is that I've written about this very thing, because I understand how important it is and how painful the journey is for so many people who are putting themselves between a foldable of what it even worse disaster and its tearing them apart. Someone speaking to that with this much clarity as I possibly can speak of that list go to the phones and the Mississippi good morning and how are you feeling okay and I don't believe it. I don't sound okay how greener that I didn't know if I really should even be colony in one of the caregiver. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's and then dementia light around and for 13 years and the last 3 1/2 years he was in the facility and he passed away this past September and dealt with the deepest darkest depression I've ever had. That will be just a quick you did call the right place. You should call it. This is the place for you to call okay so the alleged incident.

So keep that one.

Put that I want to just go ahead and put that in the box and put that back on the shelf. Your you're in the right place.

Okay I keep on fire. But that interruption like that you magnified should apply negative happened. You know, and you love them through that and have a happy like I didn't know.

I'll lie within my question acknowledges having a real hard time with it and my daughters are the one that even sort of went behind my back and 50 living healthy and they came to me and even took him and I didn't even know it. And then came to me with the solution and then lastly form on the move to Otay where one of our daughters weren't an occupational therapy at this time because in the living facility following and broken it.

So make sure you understand what you what you talk about. They went behind your back. Why did they have to go behind your back, transparent you know, talking to daddy and client have mama handling. Sometimes I would be my main I just found understand how it just in a bad mood and just not being that I felt like he would be better off than that. Having to decide to say it is an and these things can happen.

And when you you're going to get snippy you going to get bristly year here at stretch beyond what you can possibly imagine. And I get that in your gonna make mistakes. I am the crash test dummy of caregivers forgotten more mistakes than most people go to make and we cringe. Adam, we just cringe and and I get that. And I really do.

And I've had to go back and make amends and and asked for forgiveness and all those kinds of things and one of the reason one let you know you're in the right places that are caregivers. The challenge of this doesn't stop at a great because then we start replaying in her mind all the things like you said we should get a wood, and in those are painful things to relive if what if I hadn't done this effect you all those kinds of things and I think that in my case, what I'm learning is we make amends to the best of our abilities with the living and we trust God without going on and in live went out with two daughters and head of the data they receive that if you gone back and you've made of man's you trust Christ put all of that onto the cross. You take a deep breath and you remind yourself that every day that I've done what I can and if yes, the Holy Spirit show you things that you can do. Still further, the trust the Holy Spirit show you those things, but in the meantime, if you keep living in the in the regrets of the past you go to miss the beauty of the present. If you keep living in the regrets of the past you to miss the beauty of the present. The husband's gone. Was he a believer like figure 8, and a grandparent.

I allowed to my mother and I've been ongoing for you again one day, and it may not be that long will this story about don't know more about living on the future either. A lot of times we caregivers live in so much of the future because either through fear or whatever that will again gonna miss whatever dilemma right now.

Your husband is safe with Christ.

These left this shed this mortal coil and he's gone to be with his Savior that you've made amends to the best of your abilities with that before he left.

And now you turn your attention to your daughters and you cultivate that relationship with them and you learn from what the mistakes that you made with it.

You learn from them. In fact, if you want sometimes is a good idea to go out and write all the things down and that you feel like that you have struggled with right modem. Every one of those things just privately just you just you and a pencil or pen and the Holy Spirit to take the all of whatever your big whatever you're beating yourself up for right now. Write it all down and then burn it then burn it and trust Christ with prelude put your hands over given to Christ, make amends when you can burn it and live your life right now and you're quite well thank you for listing. Thank you for calling so for the caregiver. This Peter Rosenberger will be right back.

Have you ever struggled to trust God when lousy things happen to you. I'm gracing Rosenberger in 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me. But over time, my questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis. We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help and inmates in Tennessee prison.

We also recycle parts from donated lambs. All of death is to point others to Christ. The source of my help and strength, please visit standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting others standing without.com.

I'm Gracie. I am stating without the hope caregiver here on American family radio, this is Peter Rosenberger. This is the nation's number one show for you as a family caregiver 888-589-8840 888-589-8840 and why shouldn't this network host, the largest program for family caregivers, families in the middle name of American family radio and this is a group that is highly at risk of these family caregivers. They are struggling. Dealing with all kinds of horrific challenges as you just heard from her last caller. It doesn't ended a great. I've been saying that for some time. Those irregular listeners of the show know that this doesn't ended a grave with us because then we get to go back and watch the replay over and over and over in her mind of all the things we wish we could've done or should've done or wish we hadn't done that regret will lyse you just as much as anything else will. Are our challenge for us is caregivers is that we have to anchor ourselves in something that transcends all that regret all that fear all that resentment all that sorrow all the fear that's waiting for us in the future. That's a challenge for us is caregivers. How do we deal with that and I go back to what I said at the beginning of the show in Isaiah 61 releases I saw the Lord. He was high and lifted up his train filled it and we can just get a picture of the glory of God in the presence of God and then not contrasted that with when Gracie and I met the president United States all the trappings of his office were right there at at this event.

They brought his light wherever he goes the presidency is is a part of it just moves with but we have a Savior that doesn't leave us so the trappings of his office are always with us, ever present, you get the picture you understand what that means to you as a caregiver, so would your changing adult diapers tonight the King of Kings and Lord of lords is with you in this. All the Majesty has he comes into our brokenness. He comes into our grossness. He comes in to our affliction.

That's the gospel that we did because he do that we can go to him so he put it on himself and brought it to us. He brought glory to us heaven came down in glory filled muscle you understand that you see that if you don't understand. That's okay. Can you at least picture it and grasp it as you dealing with these things is you deal with the regret is and was doing if she is you deal with the remorse you look back at the unfairness of it of what you did. A baby losing your cool with all those kinds of things hang onto that and understand the people he bore every single bit of that the gospel and on this show.

My mission, my passion, my goal is to build explain these things and await you as a caregiver can understand it because I speak fluent caregiver. We speak fluent caregiver on the show.

I didn't have people speaking to me with this level of clarity through the vast majority of my journey as a caregiver tried aggregate this and assimilated for a way that makes sense to you as a fellow caregiver so there is no ambiguity in your mind of what the messages that I member say to myself it in my own mind. When people talk to me of the UN.

That's easy for you so you still understand when you don't have that excuse because I do understand that I'm a flawed sinful human being.

Imagine how much he understands what we quickly take mama call you before the end of the hour, Cheryl. I don't know where Cheryl is, but Cheryl good morning, how are you feeling Cheryl in Ohio. They are feeling tired, I get that you and I and I did get you right in your weight air credit backdating anger in your youth economic and you think I'm one person I can feel all that area right from time it does indeed who did you take care of in this manner do you take care of this matter. There my four grandchildren are very aggressive now and January 8 89 where it regularly and rearranging at our line down your phone was a little bit breaking up to you to give your grandchildren (now why are you taking care of your grandchildren have my Dr. King who cannot afford the home of a family car, and according to the four children and Carol, I became their part.

Another solution is now gone K and Anglican job because she did keep hearing react as substance abuse, substance abuse problem. Now I don't think Carol and Cedric Lano visiting drugs now as he ever did take drugs like Dr. for depression and for so what he think he sent a hard time keeping a job cannot extract them from being in Iraq is CCing counseling regular regularly. I the and when I would like my friend Will he can at his pace that the VA is that this is not uncommon and and so you are there as part of the vast network of military families who are trying to pick up the pieces for what is happening to our young men and women on the battlefield and you are in the your standing in the gap with his four children, but at the same time you got a son who has been wounded. He didn't leave the battlefield uninjured and he is dealing with a battlefield injury that's that's the whole reality of this and this is is is you know. And this is a deeply meaningful call here Memorial Day weekend because I think that so many of our wounded warriors left a part of themselves. There part of them died on that battlefield. And as we honor those who have given their their entire life for this. We also honor those who are still wounded in this and there still struggling to regain some sense of normalcy. They may never do it by dams a military chaplain for many many many many years and there are some very good military chaplains in in the service that they can connect to your son and just keep reinforcing and pointing to it. You don't have to preach and but you, but you could just keep worth reinforcing in caring for him in this.

Okay it's going to be a it's gotta be a hall for you Cheryl. It's it's this is this is no easy journey and do you know do you know the Oak Ridge boys hurt Joe Bronson, Joe Bonsall is a friend of mine, I will be have them on the show in that while he's one of these the itineraries been with the performance of the years, but his father when he was 19 years old stormed Utah Beach and took devastating wounds in his mother cared for him. She was a whack and she cared for him after he was rehabilitating came back in and she married him and she cared for the rest of his life for long time, but he went through all kinds of PTSD related call it that, at the time and and and Joe wrote about this in his book, G.I. Joe and Lily, and he wrote about this and and that that maybe a book that you might want to read G.I. Joe and Lily because it talked about how it affected the family and his father went through alcoholism and all kinds of things. It was a tough tough journey for the family, but they didn't. And there are resources for family members of wounded warriors and I would highly recommend you reaching out to those for yourself through this process you get a better understanding of what you're dealing with with your son.

It's hard to watch and feel helpless. I get that Cheryl really do and you you are standing in the gap for those children. Evidently his wife. It did you notice that that marriage is a casualty of what happened on the battlefield is partly as well. You can't blame everything on the battlefield, but but it's part of their resources out there for the UK you keep plugging into those things. Okay Cheryl give you favor and give you favor would you stay on the line to get your information will send you a copy of my book okay. All right. Hang on to Jim's and get your information from city copy my book is Peter Rosenberg Hopefully caregiver of a senior copy of hope for the caregiver. This is the nation for you as a family caregiver, hopefully caregiver.com help caregivers make better characters. Your why we do the show will see
