The heart of every man is a great adventure. Life doesn't usually feel that way.

Jesus speaks of narrow gates wide roads masculine journey is filled with many twist and turns, so how do we keep from losing heart trying to find a way when life feels more like a losing battle than something worth dying for, grab your gear, request your band of brothers will serve as the guides we call masculine journey masculine journey starts here now.

Welcome masculine journey. We're very glad to have you with today and I'm really excited about today's movie now excited about his master first. I've never seen anybody interview themselves but am very excited about you doing think that I attend as you guys some questions. I'm sure you asked me some back with this is my week to bring a movie to the table and so but before I do that talk about this week's movie. Robby, can you remind us of some of the past movies we swear we had my my favorite was Lincoln Lincoln and Princess bride just a little bit different. Both of their merit and then point-and-shoot was the next list you just log like Princess bride.

And then last week we had on Annie's favorite which was unbroken and so there's quite a variety and working to add to that Friday there where we are really struggled with with what to pick and I mean II have so many movies someone asked me to name my top three depends on what moment it is same for you guys and it depends where I'm kinda at right now. Personally in life and what's going on in my life.

You know may be at work outside of work, at home, whatever that might look like, spiritually, personally, I need those things kinda go up 10,000 feet and say why are we doing this now and in we at boot camp minimum of the early questions on her time at the core desires of a man's heart how God made your heart to come alive that in a lot of ways movies can wake up a man to an adventure that is on the live that he is not Lynn entered God's reminded them of something they may have told him early on and he forgot somehow right now and so the movies that you and I kinda will thought about II kinda settled in with what's a movie I always watch every time it's on you. That to me that's a measurement how much I really really enjoy movies no matter where I pick it up if I see on TV and when you return to it and why stay with it the rest of the thing even through all the commercials that I can't stand now and so another important I know you have them, but especially this time here. Yeah, it's a lot of people being elected. Yes it but anyway the movie just to get to the point was a movie called secondhand Lions and so I know we've all seen it sitting at the table and actually everybody in the room seen today. There's six of us in the room you hear from four of us today and it's been I think a monumental movie for all of us in one way or another has an engine it's one of my all-time favorites actually considered Apogee gas sort of shamed me into something that I love the movie stated probably a dozen times yeah I you came to me from a point where I really honestly didn't want to watch.

I didn't have a desire to watch it, but I was running a lot of heart group in Indiana and when the guys that I thought was getting not getting anything out of the whole sessions we were having, you know, because as been. I guess judgmental became and he said I got the movie guys have to watch and so he badgered me the next week. Have you seen it yet, so went home and watch it was amazing amazing movie secondhand Lions and it's it's got everything in it.

It's got the whole elements of the things we talk about the masking journey of the story. The God tells them but will first start out by here in the trailer which will really set up. Really, what the movies about that one can see that you don't really get to see very easily because you're hearing it is when they're shooting the shotgun. Most the time except for once in this trailer they're shooting a salesman and come down the road and they're shooting fish in the water or fishing so it's list of the trailer and I like to shop.

This is not you want this summer with his uncles was the last place to be future insurance Was in the middle of nowhere with two crazy old man nothing to do and got will will know TV. Sometimes you can find venture most unlikely places. Think you are things man needs to believe in the most hundred and zero do the first ever so this is actually to boot camp. It was what was it about this movie that really spoke to your heart. The media enjoyed so much love the fact that they are who they are. No pretense what you see is what you get and no codger myself, like to be that way is much as I can. Not not to be unkind or ugly, necessarily, but I don't and never have.

Like people are put on it.

You deftly get us in these guys and I think what draws people to illness. They just don't pose talk about this talk about this whole concept opposing that's not in the Arthur Hubbs vocabulary that word yet so they are exactly they are yeah that was the thing that I just fell in love that movie. The first, so I just think it's one of the best movies around and you have two old older guys the uncles that reluctantly has my coming of their life that they really are not looking forward to breaking out very early on the very first part of the clip is like we don't need a sissy boy in here because in this click is never been on a farm is never been out in the countries never shotguns or anything like that. And so he's actually grown up without his father in his life and on his mother's not been anything very kind to them along the way. Scouts from other wounds which we don't really get any the clips today, but if she can just dump Steve off with these these two great uncles.

It is never met before so she can pursue the things she wants to go do in life and in so you deftly have this mother wound aspect and you have these these older guys that that start to bring Walter's heart alive and then vice versa. Early on in the movie we get to the second Clippers water is there is like I can't take this anymore. I'm just gonna run away and we pick up the scope is ran to the bus stop and he found out that his mom is not where she said she was going to be at this typewriter school in fourth Fort Worth, Texas. I think it is and and so he calls and she's not there incisions kinda setting dejected when when Haben and Garth come up to find them at the bus stop.

Planning your next move. Good for six Montana how come you're not heading to Fort Worth.

Sheila get sleep. Why is mind made up Montana kid Barry Massenet wanted a house right needs a good man and he often on the floor. I don't want to go back last mother should get going trees north listen to favor if you come back to the house and stay a while are about to check on that they hated so much. Take away all year for one seen is so important never really use that clip before his Christmas movie and right-of-way to use the boot camp a lot in different talk. Sometimes, depending on the season and what was this about the scope the really spoke to your heart. Once a rescue hub, a great rescuer and good luck. But, but, nonetheless, yeah, I've been fascinating to me and I'm like hero I had never seen the movie until I started walking this message and an understanding really where it came from. And so there's so much that so meaningful and that clip because I understand these guys are thinking they're rescuing the kid they don't realize the kid is rescue God using the whole situation for a whole Lotta rescuing going on, you know, one of things that I say unit is becoming a band of brothers and when when you have a band of brothers is a very important thing I have really been missing not be in with you guys last basically three months and that was why I wanted to be your so bad not important to have a band of brothers and were very grateful to have you back. It has been a long three months without in. We got so much to talk about about this movie will cover it all in such an amazing movie. Next move is a truly truly family-friendly. You want to apply the ones we use our necessarily the ones we use it boot camp and speaking of boot camp.

We got one coming up November 1-4 masking journey radio.org to register now.

Sam and I talked about ways you can help support Lily smiled at him was on the information that Facebook.com where we can get PO Box 552 785 will set within each of us a masculine line that part Christian life have to do any of conjuring masculine journey radio is a great question. First journey radio hate to admit this but it took about the third time we watch you to realize why they called it secondhand Lions factor. There was the one lien right secondhand Lions portal right United made me realize that you know everybody in the story, but in our story. We have the times were secondhand right that something happened to us in somebody abandon a sore lives kind of forgotten spire. We think we've outlived their usefulness and we kind of fallen to that point where we think were to scan in a secondhand position in God uses just the lion and the pig and everything in the story to really kind of bring back to the forefront. Now secondhand you maybe be your first hand in my car salesman let me clarify for its previously enjoyed to older man. You look over here and I for some reason you have the old man here today.

Yeah, this is also about the stages of the masculine journey and they are called out to just basically feeling useless, but was this reference to the secondhand Lions. It was not just used lien. Donald used lien is the tired old use that man that were brought to life by having a purpose which was leading where grandnephew and masculine journey was really kinda cool about this is you get to see through the story airbase heart come alive. Walter comes from this really skittish kid very confident young man got the story all through the love of two uncles bring them into this journey and speak to anyone whether scenes in which he really gets to see the uncles heart is in a fight scene. Ironically, where he's going after the heart of younger men insert this barbecue joint. Nina Hubbs had a heart attack literally on the way home and they go to this barbecue joint. Instead of turning off to go home and I couple, about five young guys come in for five guys come in and want to start messing with him with his barbecue one Alyssa McKenna how that plays out right. All you never know God, you read point makes sense.

What we do.

We got Lost. What is a perfect example when I talk everything courage and get together with a bunch of punk friends right around your take folks to good-natured stop and think you are just done to awards in A small little three partners with artillery and tanks. I never seen before.

I won or lost fortunes will you begin to understand this is what are your favorite Dr. Robby Jim say this is one of his favorite scenes in I could watch the same 10 times today and not grow tired of it and it really is a what you're not saying because this is radio is all during this speech, she's got big eye and a hold of the kit set this young kid he was pushing them around his mouth subdued but a big part of this is that they have lived their lives and they are as said earlier, there what you see is what you get, and they are encountering and teaching for young posers that think bravery is harassing an old man and what you don't get from this clip is there's a whole lot of pieces is what we ended down for radio of where Hubbs actually give them advice.

Firstly, the kid comes adding with a knife up high like using the stabbing with it in a downward thrust the takes away from him and throws it back to you. Do it like this, not out of That, but I you know, for those of us who see the identity piece of this. You know it's not unlike Maximus and gladiator when it comes down to.

He's going to state his identity.

The I irony in this scene is two minutes before the fight.

He didn't know who he was useless whatever and then all of a sudden boy outcomes is identity. Any clearly knows exactly who he is and you know that passion to come after the heart of a butte you know that he talked about the love of a woman that placed throughout this throughout the movie even though you never see the woman you definitely see him. You know, rescuing the beauty throughout the and what you find in this is, it's not just any type of fight as you learn about how he loves to mentor mentor younger, right, and so even in this where is this kid up in the scene after this he takes them home and you can have this big conversation with him, tells him about being in man, but it's he's fighting for the hearts of others and brings his heart alive and reminds them of his identity because he is no longer living in that small story and we talked about that before the show that the anti-you know you are are not here talking right now but you know that they live the beginning of their life in the larger story you in this movie but it was all about the larger story fighting for the hearts of others fighting for freedom and then something comes along and rips Hubbs heart out you know losing his his wife and unity starts to live in the small story needs his uselessness comes to him and all these things enemies throne adding and all of a sudden he's brought back into the large story again you know and which is pretty clear in this regard kinda brings Walter released when we look at an end of his life and and orchestrates his whole Divine conspiracy to go after all their hearts, at one time moving along in the story that you have, continues to fill useless and so Walter what what's happening is every night of sleep locks goes out to the lake and is looking for Jasmine which was his wife Anna and Walters really wanting to have a conversation with him so he wakes him up out of his sleep and this conversation pursued ensues coming from the stories that Africa trip Matt around my mom all I hear is lies.

I don't know what to believe. If you want to believe something, believe just got some interest no reason you can't believe it long speech I can sometimes think it may or may not be true.

Things that man needs to believe in the most people basically go on courage and virtue in everything the power and money. Money and power mean nothing good always triumphs over evil to not see mentioned believing those things because things will believe in it. Speech show. Thanks, speech almost a man you promise. One minute I can't be a good man until you give me the rest the speech so you need to stick around until I'm old enough to hear the whole thing is to try to pull you to give me speech you will be living here. I need you stick around you dogs and we all need you to become part of the clip through a pretty vital what happens right after you told me in silly he he he finally caves and he says all right I'll be here and I will be who I need to be any then they hug The blanket you know if you've ever seen the movie. It it's definitely one is to make you cry makes the credit here to even think about it, but the clear thing that is happened is what Harold brought out beginning is that these guys had become a community and and these guys God has rescued them into a place of family, which you know how beautiful is that not only are the abandoned brothers but their family and in all the adversity comes her way. This brings me closer and closer and closer together and what you hear in this clip is really how these have this hardened heart that no one can really get at, because is closed off and when he lets his brother Garth getting theirs, answered some looks and some things he says time, but it really takes Walter coming along in his life to really get the rest of that wall down indecision and final stick Ranbir uncle but don't expect me to be happy about that wall up a little bit but you know many hugs Amon pats on the back and says you are good boy you have not stage.

I did not really understand the value of older man until we started learn about the stages of masking journey and that and so many older men are where you know how it is. You literally have to call them out in order to get them to come speak in your life or the experiences in the things that they know is walking with God and along the way. That bit younger man you know we need to know that stuff from all that younger but I still need to know there's still people older than the Iraqis that we do have that a little bit and a lot of things even talking about today are the things we talk about another shows and we deftly go through at a boot camp and we talk about the stages of masking journey and why it's so important that we get these certain things at each stage. What was really cool about this movie is you kind of get to see it unfold. You really get to see the impact of someone in their life to lead Walter through the journey and it is pretty cool that when we can look back and see where others of God's put my life to help us through it. They want interesting things is that Walker is bringing back the love that was lost when he lost Jasmine, he hasn't known what love was. Since then until now absolutely now we got over many here so quickly. What was your favorite thing that came out of this movie probably what was if he had one word. What would you say that two words of your favorite thing purpose you know any age that has saving men's hearts Carol do you have something like the way older guys change in it.that position will so you need it. He has that they can fulfill innovative and what I see is just love abandoning you know all the way through it.
