Roy and he wants to share that story with us in reference to an addiction alcohol addiction drug addiction and you know there's a lot of men out there as we know that have space and are facing situations like this and you know we never want to just look down on individual but we just want let God bless us to take the issue and taken by the throat and run with it took very good point will often times men don't know where to turn to for help. So it's important that when you counsel by the struggle and the server that your theirs is a support mechanism is an accountability mechanism so I'm excited to hear what else can share with us tonight in the think is God opens doors will be enough to ensure little bit from personal side as well, exactly.

So Alan tell us about how your journey got started in reference to your diction and long road when I was growing up my mind I had was an alcoholic.

He would come home.

He was verbally abusive to. I had a brother and three sisters and my mother and same like every weekend the cops will be called because he got so irate about about the time I was 12 years old guys in my neighborhood who we got together at 12 years old but my first joint. My first beer, smoke my first cigarette on the same day and got so sick. But afterwards that was my means of escape from the problems that my dad was given Ellen Jeff's siblings, I do. I am the baby of five had three older sisters and one older brother, and I'm the baby yes or okay see the baby so that makes it even more difficult is about the time the young sons come along offensive got through all the mistakes of learning with the first woman to serve the Jews had to endure what was still, still, guess I was raised up in the 70s.

I was born in 1965 and by 1977 I had started you know when we were kids. Most kids think that you know when I grow up I want to be a fireman or a policeman or a doctor or lawyer. We never think it was going to bed, drug addict or alcoholic. We don't grow up thanking them to be that way but it slowly comes up on and by the time you get there is too late. Addicted you're an alcoholic, drug addict and to what point to what age did you realize you are not actually addicted my gosh or did you go 40 years old.

How well you basically thought I could handle it.

You are denying it for a lot of years I lost a functioning alcoholic right and adding I went to work everyday.

I make good money been a printer all my life done good things.

I just didn't realize how bad it had gotten right in US a very interesting thing that Alan talked about it is that no child wants to say or grows up thinking that I want to become alcoholic or or drug addict. So I think from that statement in recognizing where you were and in the condition you were in it.

It gave you at some hope that the life that I'm living is not normal if it was normal at all. How did your siblings turn on struggles will few struggles with doing very well about with addictions, any drug or alcoholism not I don't think so.

So you are the one follows a black sheet.

They want a black sheep existed of the affected you differently so that we can became the vehicle as you grew older. For whatever reason, which you know we talked will you and I've spoken many times off of the air about the impact any type of action has two young men in your for those of you listening as adults, but also as younger men that might be listing your your actions will have a reaction exactly and it will either be within you. There be a consequence within you personally or within those that are watching you and Ellen sit in front of us. As a result of I would have to say probably the way his father treated him the way his father demonstrated alcoholism and those of think is found only in my life impacted me there you.

I was 12. Right. And I was back in the 70s right is 2019 will do you think Ellen the availability of alcohol was much greater to a younger person. During that time. I do that and I think I will not just talk about this today. Actually, I think the today alcoholism for young people is not pornography, and we think that's is probably much larger problem that we realize with alcoholism pieces in history one because of it slowly creeps up on you like you said it first starts out as a social drink.

Even people who never drank else and have a glass of wine or something becomes becomes a way that to socialize, to relax and then if you have stressful jobs, stressful wife, a glass of wine unfortunately will ease in the moment that mess is going on in your mind, which is a false hook a try. Satan use as a faucet, so have to work today. If I work tomorrow were talking earlier when I was 14 and 15 years old at the bus stop I was drinking upon liquor and moaning before we went to school before I went to school and never got caught while in CNN, but alcohol to is not the drug of choice today drug of choice today is like opioids and crystal melee things like that so you know it's it's sort of like taking a backseat. But we still can't forget about it. But you know from the from the simple fact that when people do start consuming it. They think it's okay right and addiction is addiction right exactly. So it was alcohol opioids which I think opioids are so popular because it's not so visible if you taken one, you know you can state yourself and feeling that it gives you is more within you. Unless you just have to be out doing like talking or something. It's easy to be done in time and forcing availabilities.

We know it's epidemic Porsche proportions in our country right now.

I think they just arrested the doctor got convicted last couple weeks we will and North Carolina everything right and too many prescriptions made, the flag will not sell not my thing was crack again that so you went to a drug addiction behind the 20 years of crack. Okay well in a weeks time. I probably do $1000 worth week while I lot of friends. I'd say that current habits must have something I make good money and I would normally smoke it, but I will sell it also tomorrow. You know, I had plenty and I said I had many of friends got a change or friends yet change the place you go to change everything. Yes, so that friends were probably temporary. I'm sure when the drugs went away. There will you love those friends with the way through the really more acquaintances against is to have the convenience of having access to a supply line right yes so will quickly tell us a little bit about some of the more traumatic times growing up usual just a few exemption not given to the subject that we just let publicist understand only grown man's perspective reflecting back on his childhood.

Well I tell you, when I was in my younger age.

I had a girlfriend and I got her pregnant twice. We were both doing things we shouldn't be doing.

But we had abortions, something I'm not proud of it all. You know, we don't think about consequences when they happen, but I am getting older and age. Those consequences are that one thing I'm not married right now I have nobody in my life except for God who's going take care of me when I get old. That's big consequence having those abortions. At the time I didn't realize how how much of an impact will have on me in my later years, and because I think those things you know we we don't think about because were in the moment of whatever it is we're engaged in and and I think this is where the love of God you know comes in because now you have a whole different view of where you know you want to go in God and a lot of things that we were talking about early know sometimes it doesn't happen right away for everyone but but we we should not come to a point to say hey you know there's no hope because this show is about hope. It's about reaching out to individuals who may have experienced or are experiencing some the same things your experience at and just don't ever give up because not God never gave up on me. I tell a story earlier about my dad is all about a park across little park across which might not mean much to you or anybody you noticed, but it means a whole lot to me.

He was 85 years old before he gave his life to Christ, who we truly gave his life to Christ and see. And I think I think when God when Jesus Christ said what's impossible to man is possible with God. So you know, regardless of what we we go to and a lot of a lot of things we don't understand why we go to law but when we do go to him and then we begin to share what we went through and see that's what man talk radio is all about is to is to get man gets you in the position to say that the life that you live in.

If you are were on the road that Alan was on and he shared earlier that it is a struggle. He still struggle with some things we all struggle with the always sinless know will not sinless because we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God so and if we if we never see him anymore then the word of God says that we are live in the truth is not in us.

I went on a three day binge without sleep rode around for three days ran out a gas five time going from Charlotte to Hickory to look no more.

I would ride around for three days thousand dollars in my pocket to scared to get out the car to get a take a gas or certainly pay for their if the times are dominated. I was so sick after those three days I went to an acquaintance house. I said here take it I will more went back and neck crack house and I prayed to God to save me when he did go through who sent this with the same thing for a few months ago with two men's meeting on Saturday morning heard the word went home got a shower. This got them his knees and pray that God would release him from the hold drug) lack of at crack. Same thing happened to him.

You don't have to be on altar owner, you don't have to be a strength. Nancy church are or where wherever you're at dock and save you and say I think I just led them into your heart.

You gotta open your heart up and just say look.I am sick of and see that's the message that's the message man is it doesn't matter where you are because if if God can save Alan where he was then how much more will he do for you, because see when he talked when he talked in reference to the parable when St. Luke's chapter 18 about the unjust judge in Iraq that judge, he didn't have any respect for man. He didn't have any respect for God, but he was one with no woman. She kept coming back again and again and again and finally he said this lady basically is wearing me down. And if I don't do anything.

I'm not going to get anything else done, but the key to this parable I think is not only the faith that God want us to impart to him.

But it's all it also says that if I am in a situation to be able to do something in you when we heard Alan that you said that all along the way. There was people there. No, there was people there to help you deal with people there to give you some instruction and give you some guidance. People were praying for me.even know my aunt Peggy oh gosh he was he's a wonderful woman and I will never I'll never forget he still love the donor open years her.

That's how it came out all the prayer works when it's important we were to remove all those people that we know our life that aren't where they need to be the need to point out in prayer does work so want to do is were coming down and lasted a few moments here today and wanted to share some thoughts from a personal perspective, I was one of those guys I grew up with an alcoholic's home, but he was a seasonal alcoholic. He would drink on three or four day binge is about four times a year, but it unfortunately was all the key times of year and end up putting your heavy shadow or as Chris makes Thanksgiving holiday. So if you're listening today and you got you got a problem with his drinking. I want to challenge you to turn loose. Even if you don't know you got a problem I found you turn it loose because it's affecting your family is affecting your children and you young men you just need to shut it down now to get going down this path because you will have a family someday and is better to turn it loose now than type deal with it in the future.
