This is the Truth Network welcome to man, Rajeev ITAW CM is talking and walking Christian men's ministry where they are devoted to breaking down the walls of race, challenging, and to take their God assigned as our host will Hardy and Roy Jones Junior a black eye and a white welcome once again to man talk radio on. Will Hardy black guy and I'm Roy Jones Junior like and Roy. It's been a beautiful day today. I just want to say it's been a beautiful day you are doing the rain this morning. I'm enjoying the rain, you know, without rain, you can grow anything on this is true with the move. Some cool fall to changing leaves is most body installations are got on the need all the cool weather. Today all man talk radio we have Bob Hoover with us and Bob is a he's a guy who we recently met things like having known a long time, no, and he runs a Really Really Good Pl. in High Point, NC called the hero center and so we want to welcome you.

Bob to man talk radio. Well, well, thank you for letting me break the tie between the two of you is now to I got I referee you can view all the way back and I'm the new guy in this come about psyches sit on the other side of the walls and it is doing today. Yeah we all raise our hands the keys in the tech unit or do that yes I agree got it all Truth Network on Bob Buehler on the old combat officer from Vietnam and after coming back from Vietnam I thought I brought my bronze star and lots of saved up money and I was good to go. But later on in life I realize I also brought the war back home with me and I diagnosed with 100% rating for PTSD and out of that came a passion to serve veterans and so I've been doing that for a number of years and now just a couple years ago we parted by the lease with the John Wesley campground nonprofit and we now are the leaseholder of the John Wesley campground me now: as you said really hero center and there we try to help veterans of all ages and all times of service but primarily younger millennial vets as we try to help them move from the military in a very structured environment into the civilian world which is very chaotic and unstructured to do that. So I'm somewhat of a transition center we really try to help them with life skills says they are trying to assimilate into your distended domestic environment of financial literacy, resume writing, public speaking, all of those things. Secondly, we try to help them deal with the wounds of war we call personal well-being and we try to around do things outdoors and in all and about that they enjoy doing which is kind of the draw, build relationships, and out of that you can develop trust. This is a faith-based piece. This is very recognize that the healing for the wounds of war come primarily through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, amen.

He's a guy that can transform every we talk about mind, body and spirit militarily talk about mind and body they give no quarter, no to the spirit. But we do try to recognize that the spirit of a man or woman is where faith and hope reside in out of that personal relationship, they can have a renewed mind to transform mind to mind that in Christ.

And so that's it and then course we try to help them with their employment. We try to give him some training job skills workforce development and try to push them out – settle into the society like the rest of us are hard workers are patriotic. They take orders.

There are really attractive to employers and they become part of the economic fiber of the community and so were excited to even slow down was still ongoing with that ministry. We've got therefore residents out there and ever ready to launch them job training classes.

Students would be got a handle on this covert virus and so we don't have this man though Lewis men's talk time we have found work with females.

We have a W that group and we have a bet a female resident that's living out there now who came in a home situation and allowing the transition back in and my wife Bev who is the camp director as well as the social worker for mental health well-being. She's been working with her. She's not working and very vibrant and productive so where this is a man starkly I did minister to men and women alike thought delighted to be here in China. All vets are out there listening and if you ever want to combine CS with 1500 Bridges Dr. and the looking for volunteers. We have coffees that if it's a vet you want to come out will find something for you to do to be blessed by the contributor to maybe find a help that you need to deal with some issues you're facing. That's great, Bob. So you partnered with employers in the area that makes it easy for them to maybe start easing back into the workplace there in the High Point area. Yes, it is a noble who are looking for job in a little bit overwhelmed with the numbers. If we go down to Fort Bragg for example, people coming out of the first enlistment so it's kind wanted done for years out is about 500 a month that that that separate from the military. So this is sort Bragg this Fort Bragg will not will not consider countrywide and South definitely is a need to help him transitioning and most of them that do prefer the trays anew want to work with her hands. They do want to be outdoors in the night.

Gone hunting camp and do all of those things and quite honestly it's it's a it's a hiring bonanza for veteran to come looking. They almost can pick any trade they don't even have to go to school and meet their employees out to do direct hire we offer.

If you look at the big picture. It is a four-year solution to employment at Skoda University is a two-year for associate degree at a community college but in independent 8 to 12 weeks we can give them a certificate of completion in a job skill was electrical, plumbing, HVAC or carpentry and we can we can apprentice them almost immediately and have them out there into the workforce. There is just a real demand that and so part of it is is helping you become a better employee is that they do bring some the issues of anxiety or flashbacks or some of those things that's where we really can help bridge them and handle that and be able to deal with those issues that are unique, somewhat to the trauma that they faced and have it otherwise immigrate employees, so they're calling us employers are saying you have anybody enter their eager to hire. They just know that's a good employee sure the server will know the certifications you talk about this in 8 to 12 weeks is that through what you GCC that does the ready ready jobs are Quick quick start yellow ball that's attended is a lot of them go to GT cc.

To do that little bit of the community college and are designed to hold them for two years so they can get paid to pick it up, keep them in school what so always. Is this a short a variation of that and there's to do sexier full certified bite by the Department of Commerce and by VA but if employers looking for direct hire is the same Bob given the basics and using as a check them out.

So part of their stay here as this help in getting the VA help get the benefits of good housing and and an employer saying I'll do the rest do that. So this is a huge demand solar installers Pike electric is looking for lineman Mallya knows that this is just wide open, often in spite of their pandemic that we can't mean classes like would like to delete still where those guys are essential to working the looking for help and we would love to have any veteran that you connect directly with us on a one on one, we can formalize the training sure, but we can sure do direct tires versus developers and people landscaping. If you'd like to start a landscaping company is because the demand is so high is still building homes for student development is going on and all of those they landscaped and so that's a great time took to be a vet and we just want to help them get their benefits to help them connecting community are sweetcorn mantras and I'll give you all might back his honor, which is home benefits and connection to community.

Because that's what they left.

They had a bond of brotherhood and so we kind of want to build a community keel is again our faith base mutually, mentally, socially, physically seal and in a higher that's training, education and employment honor human hire is overall about the hero center on 1500 Bridges Dr. and Gray look at again as I think as annoyed you doing the whole person.

It sounds like him and that's I think what the what the vet who was coming out from that structured environment. As you indicated to an unstructured one to give them some direction and and focus how big he is. The campus at the about us that. So while liberal pluses for us no longer located right in downtown High Point were right next to the old abandoned mall and across from High Point University. So were strategically located were sitting on 8 acres. So we have room to developing a big community gardens and we have a big auditorium little hold 500 people so we host a lot of community events of this looking for a location. We have a large community center that we can have a banquet for up to 80 people. Right now we are using existing cottages says so we can take about 10 residents in the cottages that have been remodeled and and repurposed.

There also two very large block barracks looking structures that on the property and they take 20 rooms each. And so we do have a permit from the city in order to renovate the buildings. It's just a little bit cost prohibitive.

We have to meet your it's an old building from 1940 and this black feelings of soccer fall, but there wanting to sprinkler systems and fire retention in each room and and and so you talk about two, three, $400,000 to renovate those buildings. The code and so that's a it's kind of a near major campaign in order to do that. But most of them could commute out to our programming become today class but some who came from out of state that we would hold those 10 spots for those that came in the coming weekends if they came up from camp to June Norvell at Fort Benning for gray. Then we would provide that residency option, but most of them communis this day. Students and that we try to cram it into a sweet day, week, and give them a day on the field that working with habitat or some contractor and then their home for the weekend to be able stay connected to their families in the midst of all that is when we do these life skills you know and use personal well-being will begin working with them while they're there to help them holistic is a whole person we have on so that is absolutely great and see you don't have to be a veteran listener and order to help so you know Bob is looking for volunteers and if you if you are out there and you know that's that might be affiliated with your church or some like that and and you want to come out and volunteer. How does a person do that by how to get in contact with you. So, direct phone line if you want to jot it down concerning the listening audience.

It's 336 with the common 8840 the TRO or 376 and website hero center God like we are coming up on a break right now, but we're going to come back and continue talking with Bob Hoover with the hero's center and High Point DAW CM and would love to have you join their community of men for breakfast every first and third Friday of every month and Bible discussions and fellowship at the best breakfast in town meeting location is at their voracious poster First Christian Church in Kernersville, 1130 N. The welcome back Samantha. This is Roy Jones where is that a good time to visit the Bob Ceballos most temples will Araz aggressive Wilson Bob. We appreciate your intro and tell us all about your sinners and that how people can get engaged to be a part of that and also a way to serve the vets because we know that there is no we appreciate what they do the service they provide that too often it's if it's out of sight out of mind, thing, and it's acute good that you're keeping on the forefront for the community for us as radio audience and unjustly you and your church people as well so that that's pretty amazing. So Bob, as you see the man and women come into the hero center. What are some of the specific issues that you have seen that they bring in, and we can because I know that there are vets who might be listening to the program or spouses of that sort. Friends of that's and and and they might be experiencing some of these same issues that you you going to talk to us about yeah I you've got a goodbye is a macho image of a of a veteran who is invincible and never says no to admission and able to conquer all things and so you know it in person's mind is is where there will resides to talk about mind, body and spirit. The will of a man is stronger than the physical being of a man, a man could do incredible feats and he can force his body to go up on another mission and climb another hill with no sleep, but this little mental health is combat trauma. This PTSD is actually a wound to the mind and so when they start hitting these attacks and I'll give a little bit of descriptive terms in the second.

Here they think they can just force their will over there mind. An example of that is the number one treatment for combat trauma is self induced drugs and alcohol is what it does is anesthetize is the mind because what is going on is that the mind is like a computer processor in the brain is the storage of the hard drive. So when we have a vacation file rank and file the work file we open close and put it all of our mind, a crisis assistance spins in the mind and you can't find a place in the brain distort like a square peg in a round hole so they have the flashbacks that I have all of this distant. I don't know what to do with it okay and so that's why the anesthetize that was with the with drugs and alcohol.

So when you dearly, specifically, that with these guys think that we try to do that in an outdoor environment candidates is the best place fishing or hunting I know what the guy now say, that myself. I can tell you for things about you have only known you for now. Number one is your agitated all the time. You just you know in their vernacular is ongoing. Real post office banquet.

Everybody and number two is some you've got all these images, the conflation that this sitting up there we we know that because we've all experienced that flashbacks of those things that you mind just can't store until the dissenter and number three is you're probably fighting and addiction of one form another was drugs with alcohol is pornography or what it is, is that this takes your mind away from the from the crisis in number four is that you and mom getting together too much. I would suggest she doesn't want to bite into any of this. It is at once her anger. She doesn't want so that's kind of a four tier step in being a veteran myself I can say Charlie Yoshino willing to unzip and look inside and say that there's a crisis going on. You want to sit in your man cave here with your sixpack and the remote control unit is going to sit there but that hasn't worked out for the last two or three years. This is you feel inadequate you feel stuck you feel you know way out of it because you don't know how to deal with handout and so part of it is just getting them to open up just getting them to realize that hey everyone is who has a miss you all well fighting the flashbacks are all fighting our anger issues and detachment in relationship with you want to isolate weekly hide under a helmet so amazing because everyone in the Walgreens pulled a gun on people than ever is on the floor as a people would bond and sing home by all in the group counseling session and help each other through all of this, oh yeah, me too. But military will not do that though isolate. They won't they won't talk about it. So what you create is a closet and so World War II grandpa never talked about what to he locked his closet whenever talk about other people going to the closet and locked themselves in and they end up under the bridge that are consumed by it. Okay, so more direct and viable approaches is is go with someone or with some help window the closet must begin to talk about I give you ways to deal with anxiety, or ways to deal with anxiety, and so where my wife ever so good is her ability to give them the tools of mindfulness and breathing techniques and and and different ways that they can get control of this anxiety so it really is all about giving them tools. A told by in a faith-based relationship that could help them get through those those speed bumps when they come at them and they come out of nowhere on the real issue is services differentiation between the mind and the emotion so I can know that I'm at home with my family and I'm in a good setting, but I can hear something outside or I can smell something and emotionally. I am just last into a setting that's very chaotic to me and very threatening and deadly to me in my motion to take over you now and so if you don't have some throttle so that you have some management tools to out to help them just step back, into a cleansing going think and I'm still father still husband you, I'm still at home here and talk yourself down the event that you can you can manage it. But even back to employment piece more and more employers fund Old Dominion to give a shout out to the trucking company there tending to send them out in the buddy system will help voices out 2 x 2, so that a guy hits New York City with his truck as it will to the city that you dispute the swapout of a guy you bring them down and and so that's very biblical principle as well is to have a buddy system. Their whereabouts are part of the issue Dan is betting these people because they had a better body devices. I got your six. That means I've got your back.when you walk out of the unit and give up your uniform and give up that battle body then you're lost and I got from a structured environment and traverse a very chaotic environment like my son and nobody by society. You can isolate it onto your will you military or not you get picked off you get ticked off and safely jump on forcing arthritis, isolation is just getting it. So that's what we try to create is a community so he was center is all about community so you come as one but you become part of the brotherhood. It seems that uniqueness of being a veteran and and so veteran you're welcome everywhere. Whatever you did. If you're veteran that your calling card and and I we honor veterans in the community just to have to say I like when I was in Vietnam and then I got ran out of an airport when I come back from Vietnam societies will be more accepting of the service of the veteran.

Regardless of your political persuasion. They do say we want on your service and and people do that and I challenge people who say all thank you for your service. I rebel careful with that. So I do a public place on the talk anybody particular I want to say that makes you feel good but you need to pick up a shovel or pen and come out do something and helpless below that help be the volunteer and help come alongside and then some resources or time or talent to help as a mentor or dyspnea serve the needs of the center and the would love to have you and and and so you can think of it by serving of that we invite them to do that challenge exactly because it's it's not just about word. It's about D right so carrying out that particular requirement that that that might need and you know the big the biggest thing for me that I sobbing of of of that myself is the element of trust that a veteran has a tendency not to trust a lot of people, but you have to build trust in the course.

Bobby talked about that and I talked about building that trust factor and beginning to break down the wall of of going into that shallow into the closet and holding all these things and and not letting them be manifest so someone can openly help so with that said, how can a individual as a veteran, how can they benefit personally from the experience that you have out there to hear us in a couple wife number one. As we do another group activities that we be putting together this is a great shout out for Mr. Epperson because he is that what we call the warrior form lumpen Eric Virginia and Stu Senior said to Bob you bring your veterans out there at no cost and so that becomes the carrot that rule really will drive us together and then that suggest a great time to have the activity and into build the trust but back to your specific questions over the frustration that most veterans have is trying to resolve their issues along so we say what we can to get you the VA and and get you some benefit that there are been there. I'll never go back. A simple yes you are, because that's where the money is so we can help them navigate on this another fine organization called NC servers so shepherded by USO and it's a guy care, providing a platform of a number of nonprofits that have come together, and like a 360 and so you go in and put your information in and it opens up maybe 25 different organization so you go in and say what you need when the transportation and then you say okay to the drop-down menu live education have housing and employment. They have suffered my spouses have other South NC servers come, let us help you coordinate your benefits to get medical get some kind of compensation that you deserving that get you going on the right track as well as a job well quite a bit for help for veterans and I think that's the thing folks at the listening is that you can like a different part of this is just listening and sitting on the sidelines as well as child and get off the sidelines's spiritual walk.

There's nothing sidelines and help those that have served us and protect our freedoms. We thank you for Joyce, Bob, it's good to have you with a simple will be back with you next week part to this conversation as we wrap up today show.
