What were fighting studios to see Byron Tyler and wiki reforms you provided during the new theme for the month of February. Liver fighting is talking about love our messages for the entire month of February are really centered on marriage and family, marriage and family, cultivating contentment in the home that's that's a verb by the what you gotta cultivate yet to be intentional. You have to strive you have to try get to work at it right. Most couples are not willing to work at their marriage. Well, the subject of family and marriage was always so monumental in the ministry of Adrian Rogers. He cared about it passionately preached about it you know why was the subject so important to him.

While there is a war on the family and the devil is unleashed all of the art jewelry of hell on the family because he knows if he can hurt us at home.

He can hurt us all over.

Society is just the family written large. We cannot say it enough that the family is absolutely the basic unit of society before God gave his industry before God gave us education for God gave us government before God gave us the church God gave us the family.

I can remember being with Dr. Rogers and he was talking to the staff and environments.

A special timing. He kind of took a different turn.

A decision in a high, you may be in the ministry, and you may be ordained ministers, but without your family. You have nothing and I think for him. It was a reminder back to us right your first and foremost ministry is your family if you do that well then God will continue up to do other things well.

My wife Pam and I had marriage counseling with Adrian Rogers and I remember some of the principles that were talking about this month. He shared with us heart-to-heart and I never will forget on our wedding day when he did. Our ceremony of you know, the nervous group me. I had the envelope of the money to thank him for doing our wedding and we were back in his study and sipping on some tea and getting ready to walk out for the big day and I had it in the envelope and he took it and he wrote a note on it and was wondering what he was doing and he said now Byron, whatever you put in this envelope is what I'm giving back to you and Pam a never opened it up and I just remember that investment which wasn't much.

As a young married couple, but it show me that he really did care about us, yet you rather see you live out the word of God than any other type of payment or investment.

And so that was those were special times and what a great great mentor to all of us will be looking today at Psalm 128, which is really a great text describing family that cultivates contentment in their home and that's one of the biggest enemies to the family is discontentment well. Adrian Rogers said a discontented man is never rich, but a contented man is always rich and and that's that's true, and CS Lewis would even say were never content truly into were in the presence of the Savior, and so again I think we have to work at this symphony called marriage will carry you, learning to trust God really helps develop the family life when it comes to contentment, thanking him for what he has provided us in learning to love people, rather than coveting things and also by giving generously. These are things that will learn in this series you will learn and will learn how to apply them in our lives quickly right are we cultivating contentment in the home are we praying and asking God to give us a spirit of gratefulness or generosity me those of the type of things we want to live out and I'm assuming he's kind of the things you would like listeners to take away. Absolutely these. These are the nuggets we want everyone to apply to their life right now. I'll add one that that we would root out any type of covetousness from a heart and those things were God can work well with today's message cultivating contentment in the home. Part one hears Adrian Rogers so many holes really are a small discontent and the mosquitoes of strife and arguments are breeding and constantly nagging at us and we have people today who are rather than getting to live there living in Madison Avenue got a good job on this.

Madison Avenue is a real case of the wants and we have the idea that in order to be happy we have to have certain things Madison Avenue tells us you deserve the best you got it coming to get things you'll be gloriously happy. Like all of the pretty faces on television, on television, but you know and I know that many families really because of this financial time bombs getting ready to explode but we have a picture of a contented family here in Psalm 128 and that only six short verses. Let's read them all. Blessed is everyone here, Lord, that walk in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labor of thine hands. Shalt thou be, shall be well with the by wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house by children, like all of plants roundabout by David. Behold that does shall the man be blessed that the Lord, the Lord shall bless thee out of Zion. Thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem, all the days of my life. Yay thou shalt see by children's children, and peace upon his what were talking about content. What is contentment may give you definition of contentment. Contentment. It is an inner sufficiency that keeps us at peace in spite of outward circumstances, contentment, and enter sufficiency that keeps us at peace and spite of outward circumstances actually in the New Testament the word contentment has got even self-contained.

Remember, Paul said when he was in at blip in jail I learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content the idea actually means I'm self-contained. I don't have to look at circumstances to find my peace with the space shuttle goes up.

They put everything on board the people going to mean because it is no 7-Eleven in the neighborhood at this it it it is self-contained. It has everything on board. Now a Christian a person has Lord Jesus Christ in his or her heart has that contentment that self-containment is not, however, contentment is not complacent say it is not being laid-back is not being self sadness by many of us need to get busy there so much room for improvement so much more that we could be should be, and contentment does not mean learning to do without possessions only you can have possessions and be content you can not have possessions and may contain what the apostle Paul said, I learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I've learned about and is nothing wrong with about print of your bounding today. If you got plenty I'm so grateful for you, that's wonderful, but just be content with learned about learned a base state. I am rich or poor. I have learned to be content now the Bible is not against you having thing not affect the Bible says is the Lord thy God, that giveth the power to get well. The Bible says God takes pleasure in the prosperity of his in every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from above, from the father of lights is no bare-bones shadow turning so it doesn't take poverty to learn contentment. It doesn't take riches to learn contentment, but we must learn contentment.

Remember in that passage of Scripture in Philippians chapter 4 verse 11 Paul says, for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content by you are three things that you need to learn. If you have family contentment because a friend listen to me now.

It is not contentment at home. You've got industrial-strength problems.

I mean the devil rather hurt you at home. Anyplace else because if you heard it on you to start all over. And if your home as I say the swamp discontent. You have got real problem number one. Let's learn what destroys family contentment. The Bible says in the 10 Commandments thou shalt not cut it, thy neighbor's house. Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife is manservant makes her as Ochsner's ask anything that is by neighbors here in the 10 Commandments, the last of these 10 is thou shalt not covet very interesting commandment before I look at that just won't let me say this, that the 10 Commandments were given primarily to the family. Did you know that God gave the 10 Commandments and he said not that teach these two sons and grandsons that you have a happy family and God gives all of these nine laws for living and then God sums it up with the last one, thou shalt not Now, why did God put that last because it sums up all of the others.

All the other commandments deal with actions, but this last one deals with an attitude all the others deal would be, but this last one deals with design what's in your heart, covetousness what is covetousness photos you want that contentment is covetousness is an unlawful desire that comes out of discontent. Actually, this particular commandment deals with the heart KY covetousness is so bad I love the one it's so deceiving covetousness is very deceptive. You may have a heart that is eaten up with Francis Xavier, a great Roman Catholic theologian said this, he said, I have listened to thousands and thousands of confessions memo one time have I ever heard anyone confess the sin of covetousness interesting is such a deceptive sin time anyone ever confess the sin encompassed the apostle Paul was a very righteous man. He lived a life of excellence before he got say he was doing well, one day, the apostle Paul had the 10 Commandments and he was checking them all. Thou shall have no other gods before me said I don't do that. Thou shall not make any graven images I don't do that does not take the name the Lord thy God in vain. I don't do that on your father, mother, yes I do that. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep holy the El Cerrito steel I don't don't kill I don't know, commit adultery, and what a good boy. My I was doing super good. Terry said I got to the last commandment and I read that one and it wiped me listen to how he said in Romans 747. What shall we say then, is the loss in God forbid I had not known sin but by the law. That is the law is what appealed me back and showed me that I was a sinner, for I had not known lost my lust means unlawful desire except the law had said, thou shall not Set I would've given myself in a guy got down to this last commandment. And he said, thou shalt not covet.

I would say something about that many folks who may become this and I know it is very deceitful and I won't tell you something else. It is very debasing a lot unlawful desire lack of content covetousness.

It reveals how wicked hearts are now put in your margin on Mark chapter 7. Beginning in verse 21 Jesus is talking about your heart and my heart and he says for from within, out of the heart of man, proceed evil falls. Now these things come out of a heart. Melissa evil thoughts adult rates, fornication murders, thefts prevent list is notice. The next thing covetousness. Notice the company they covetousness keeps.

Again, for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, adult friends, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness to see the seriousness and evil. I blasphemy cry foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile the man got discharges x-ray into our hearts and he said all of these things are in the human heart that we don't realize that but I want to tell you that that old nature is still there and these things are down in our they were born in our area and after and find a wormhole were is no warming that wormhole is not therefore the worm began, but for the warm to get out. The worm was hatched in the blossom bag is there in the blossom and the worm finds its inception. There inside the applicant meets its way up these things that come out of heart. They were there. We were born within the Bible says we are by nature children of wrath, digital children, the covetous, they gave a child, put them in a room surrounded by 15 toys he be playing one let your neighbor come over to visit put her little baby on the floor and you go and pick up one of those toys and this kid will drop one is playing with and going about that kid and take it away from. We by nature, this I mean mind, we wanted for ourselves and was come from Jesus said in John eight verse 44 you of your father the devil, and the last of your father you will do. How did Satan become Satan. He coveted the place that God is that I will be like the most time. I want the throne of God will exalt my throne above the stars of God.

How did he encourage Eve to sin through covetousness, take that which was on earth she surrounded in regard beautiful garden is one piece of fruit that you didn't have any said you go ahead and take this.

I was reading an article about some MBA students at prestigious Duke University and they asked the students, in order that they might teach them more. These MBA students going into business when you want to learn is to teach, let me just quote from the article for several years. MBA students at Duke University SKU qua school of business were asked to write a personal strategic plan. The question posed to them was what you want to be when you grow up with few exceptions, they wanted three things, money, power, and things very big things, including vacation homes, expensive foreign automobiles, yachts and even airplanes. They were primarily concerned with their careers and the growth of their financial portfolios. Their personal plans contain little room for family intellectual development. Spiritual growth, social responsibility or more effective management. Their mandate to the faculty was teach me how to be a moneymaking machine.

Give me only the facts, tools and techniques to ensure my instantaneous financial success.

I can promise you one thing if they got that instantaneous financial success, they would not be satisfied. Bible says he that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver.

Listen to me and don't forget this a discontented man is never rich and a contented man is always rich. A discontented man. I've got my chance is never rich. A contented man is always rich and somebody who is not content with what he has will not be content with what he would have had to whom little is not enough. Nothing is enough covetousness is wrong, saying that it is wrong that had got ambition. I'm not saying is wrong, that things but covetousness is so deceptive. It is so debasing and frame.

It is so destructive. Now this verse. I really would like to return to first Timothy chapter 6 and let us begin read in verse eight. Nice talk about contentment. I listen to, but godliness with contentment is great gain. That's really the bottom line of all that I have decided, but godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out. Somebody said you never saw her through the wall behind and having food and raiment as you something to eat and something to wear.

Let us there with the content that you can go around making the Getty Jesus that foxes have holes and birds have now is not my place to lay my head, but he was discontented having food and clothing. Let us there would be content but I watch this verse nine but they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful loss which drown men in destruction and perdition for the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, there is word that aired from the fate and pierced themselves through with many sorrows that that doesn't say that they are rich.

The Bible is not against riches. Abraham was rich. David was Rick Solomon was rich. Joseph was rich, but he says they that will be rich. What does that mean it means that is then dogged determination just like the students at do that is what I want. I have set my course, when you do that you're living on dangerous ground ever so often a man speaking in a University high school will give a baccalaureate speech or whatever and you give this advice try to get the kids be ambitious and say something. I guess now young people make all the money you can justly make it off. Sounds like good advice is terrible advice. Why because nobody has a right to make all the money came because of you making all the money you can you go to be making money.

We are to be doing something you will be making money will be spending time with your wife and family making money. We'll be sleeping even be making money only.

So when you will be making my we'll be worshiping a lot of people making all the money that they can and when the making all the money to the K-1 for putting things and we put things. First, know that is its idolatry.

Anything you love more servomotors are more fear, more value, more than God is, and I when you are guilty of idolatry, you are guilty of something terrible, listen Jesus said in Luke chapter 16 verse 13 no servant can serve two masters. What's wrong no servant can serve two masters for either he will hate the one I love the other Realty will hold to the one and despise the other. And if you wanted what to masters a starting Betty said you cannot serve God and Mammon. Mammon is just another word for things and then Jesus said in Matthew chapter 6 and verse 33 seeking first the kingdom of God's righteousness and all these things shall be added on.

God will not work in second place when you put God in second place. That is idolatry.

That's the reason the Bible calls covetousness idolatry.

We have in God we trust on money, but we had me first written in the heart to give you verse the proof beyond a check made out that covetousness is idolatry. Colossians 3 verse five mortified means put to death.

Therefore your members which are upon their fornication, uncleanness, in order that affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness which is idolatry. I remember, covetousness is very deceitful thing minimus would not say that we cover this, but covetousness according to Paul here in this passage to Timothy's like an octopus just wraps his tentacles around you and drags you down. Many people get their identification by what they own. What they possess are about a man who love gold I mean is love and affection for go.

Finally got to go to put them in Golden colored carpet got a gold coated bedspread he bought in some yellow pajamas. Everything was gold all around, but then he got sick.

He came down with. Would you believe yellow jaundice and Mary was up in his bedroom. His wife called the doctors the doctors upstairs. Dr. went up examining came back now with a bewildered look what I said well how is that I don't know I can find people get lost in these things can't find them selves now this is what destroys family content, and that is covetousness unlawful desire not unlawful desire spirit of dissatisfaction coming up tomorrow will hear part two of this important lesson.
