It goes all the way back to Bible time now, many times after they would make a covenant, they would take something like black powder, sometimes gunpowder and rub it in the womb. And so when the wound would heal the scar would be very evident that scar would be called the mark of the covenant and be very evident that you could see it from their own and then those who were in covenant were called friends that we use the word friend today very lightly very loosely with the word friend in the Bible was a very significant word.
