That's a totally different matter that it well now I know you're not in comedy year, but I know who you hang around a lot and I'm think that guy rubs off on you. But all that the city you got Tocqueville Todd, welcome to the Q&A show: it's good to be here man is honor and privilege, and is hard to believe I'm in the same room with Russian nightmare in nine minutes. Good to be here. Thank you so so did you so well on and on that note well what will get that. Let me just say this for so you you you pass your church yes until our listeners yeah yeah I'm the pastor of Bethlehem Christian church in the Altamont Hall community of Eli North Carolina and I've been there over seven years now and I love the ministry they love the people there love the area also volunteer on Thursdays and Fridays at the local Western Alamance varsity football team okay and on. That's pretty exciting, and because I played four years college football guard with and on. And I'm also on the Board of Directors for the mission air group at the local airport there in Burlington for group of missionaries that it did fly planes and hard-to-reach people groups okay in different parts of the world's us when on the part of their in Burlington, North Carolina led be there. Got a family yes I have a wife that I've been married to for 27 years. Christie, we met at Gardner Webb College asked her out. The very first time I saw her in the cafeteria. I immediately asked her out and she said yes. She said no. Oh, okay. And now my friend did, put me up to it. It might've been little bit of a joke, but I was hoping she is also yes right and but anyway I worked up enough courage to ask her out again. I was really shy person back then and she said yes that second time. So I guess rest is history, but but Jan got on three dollars and in so I'm out one of the names Hannah, Caitlin and Jessica modus is on got married a couple years ago and and in my little daughter just got engaged to get married in May and I got 18-year-old senior in high school right now while congratulations send it and I know a course Burlington the infamous in my eyes anyway home of Don Col. total who who you was instrumental in the cuticle off even existing real yeah I Don Col. at all and so just tell you that story will quick. Dr. Nolan, Sgt. slaughter yes I seen him in Home Depot before Yahoo actually Lexi has a place in Burlington slaughter does so the two of them are are the brainchild behind the idea of a nephew for Ivan coal off becoming an uncle and a course of phone call.

The road were actually conversation with road were animal by Don Col. total only big guys would my shame that had become a Russian.

Why was the question and was I know the guy right now. Animal makes the phone call the next thing you know I'm in Charlotte North Carolina meeting Jim Crockett, Junior and Don Col. total and Ivan coal off for the NWA world tag team champions at the time in the cuticle off his first in the hallways of Charlotte in 1984 well if that is the back story on that. That's amazing. You notice the Internet, Burlington, North Carolina area for so many wonderful things about Dr. Noto never had the privilege of meeting him that I seen this picture up in places all around that area and not I was sorry to hear he passed away recently and and I knew he was instrumental in in your life and and I know he must been amazingly he was in and I was honored I was. It was an honor to the caddies at his service in that with the greater Houston Lao enforcement up there yesterday Alamance County yeah yeah yeah for Sheriff Terry Johnson about 1520 years, because there he served in and in the Sheriff's Department there faithfully and many, many, many of the Sheriff law enforcement were out at his and his funeral service and job and show some some connection there in the course and five minister that we've got a man of conference yes and yes at your church where yeah we try to bring a group of men together and challenge meant to be men at at your church.

The man of conference operation, thickness, outdoor service, and yet we have worship on the loan out there out there in the front yard of the church and we have a beautiful front yard of our church right there back into pandemic and and on the first Sunday we returned back to church after we were got to that lot downstage.

It happened happened on homecoming and we were able to actually come back on traditional homecoming Sunday worship on the loan and yet we had you on there for that Sunday and also had you there for that minute conference in it was great to have the guys come in and on. Have you just speak life. In truth, it truth into them how to man up for Christ. And it meant a lot to our community and has no pressure taught that out of the four guys in this room you the only one that hasn't been to a mink camp just so you know, okay, I'll pressure though but to be there car let out a figure that out you not let me live that down. I've just said. No pressure, just pointed the obvious out Amanda as a look around this room.

I just said so I could say that is that I can say this. I think everyone in this room would vouch for this special event in ministry to have an outlet like that in opportune a place to go and and just to be able to unwind to call all of the serving hats off. Just come and receive for many, especially many in ministry we allow people in the marketplace that come for many in ministry. They go back home well whether whether renewed or fresh vision is in or or or just restored. In some cases, I mean it.

It's pretty life change is pretty powerful so just plant that seed with no lie right will will will transition from that into asking you asking me what, let's flip it around now. Did you drop a wrestling fan I did.

I grew up a rational point fan I member watching you and and Ivan and now are that the guys thereby love to hate. You know that's an IQ and I guess that's what made it made it so that when the reasons he made it so great. Looking back now at it now.

I like you know what your guys for you and and and Ivan. We probably enjoyed it near his gut, but I was always pulling for the other guy for sure. But now pulling for you now and I'm like this is is wow how this is come full circle yeah I absolutely love last not stay up late at night and watch it all the time who shall guys you remember recently.

Dusty Rhodes was probably my favorite time okay. The American dream. I loved his accent the way he tall yeah baby you call me on and and and how he fault the nature boy Ric flair, and that rivalry they had was pretty awesome, right, and in back then I was always a Dusty Rhodes bandit but seems like these days I'm more of a Ric flair for and a look back at how his greatness and how great he was yet incredible career and eluded who else may name some of the names but with road warriors were were amazing that other tagteam group went with what we call the rock 'n' roll expresses the bird only girls the heart that you talk to Robert midnight express yeah while McDaniel yeah that name and I member those that got God had to bow for on the shoulder, hacksaw Jim you hacksaw I saw he was needed. Hello. That was his bill.

Hello, what is the mop and now side so funny couldn't see the 2 x 4 that he was holding but anyway macho man maybe Savage will be calling Jim to get he is guys who thought we could talk and play.

Owning and watching how eloquent got word and stuff like that was amazing and well all I hello, I have somebody that I've never I've never put the word out eloquent with professional wrestling, but hey, I'll take it. I'll take it over there okay something near enough to question yeah I am.

And because when I was a teenager watching these wrestlers will not go to church to listen to my pastor preach at things like this in God's calling me to be a preacher okay at what age and at a young age telling as young as 13. Okay. And I struggled with for three probably three years and has no way I can know most people have the fear of public speaking. Yes, the biggest fear of arrest people and I had that in and when God began to speak to me in there. What a day that go by that I don't think the pump is like not impressed upon my mind and heart preacher preacher preacher.

He wanted to be a preacher in our family and that meant I had to overcome a lot of inadequacies in in anxiety and insecurity insecurity, but it took years to come to work through some of those things I still get nervous as Clement camps for big ticket can keep going south yeah yeah right so good with you so but if I remember correctly it was a long time. You really didn't say much wrestling that's correct and it's amazing how God can even use that had a very English yet and I hear you but I won't hear a little bit more about that journey. Can you tell me because I was just minding my own business as a young boy out you not disliked it football and go fishing. Yeah, he's call me to be a preacher and finally I decided to surrender to that fact that I had to talk and share Jesus with people and can you share with me a little bit more about that journey for you that hello, did you go without speaking okay and you were successful back then. You made a transition to speaking for Christ is amazing what case and what's want what's is what's funny is is still the stable of the advent of the Internet and everything else that people are she really know from Russia and/or whatever direction someone recently, I was to the big conference in Fort Mill, South Carolina Donna. MorningStar ministries part of the introduction.

We were counted to joke about that and they came up with a book signing the bookstore lately like so hot like how did you improve your English so well, but only serious like not really from Russia drive show. Yeah, in my mind, my mind Todd I here's what.

So here's what I knew part of the storyline was I didn't speak any English.

I'm fresh off the boat from Russia 84 Olympics, but was boycotted by Russia, so I couldn't compete in shaman to team up with my uncle.

I'm on call object like it had and so I thought well and they said okay so I don't even have to speak I should want just destroy guys writing for about six months writing talk talk anywhere in public at all for six months anywhere public and very little of the dressers. In fact, I still bust my chops for for it when I did start talking the dressers talk with my accent. Likes marginal business. Can you not just talk to us in your normal voice or whatever but I would came to learn. It was called method acting which I go to acting school with the eye but I project myself in the character and then when when the decision came. I was going to start speaking and start talking in my mind, and when Wolf I really was from there. How would this word sound. How would that word sound like Magnum TA right member. They don't haven't yet remembered him. Yeah.

So if you remember it was my gut the cell like maggot right it is what it was supposed to be insulting what the same time doesn't know how to say Magnum poor guy.

My got the guy back memories. It does so because I just so that's how it evolved as I started thinking how would this word sound that would sound help with this phrase sound and sense of just meaningless.

It's got to be really heavy accent and and hopefully they won't even know what I wanted to make sense to them because they like. I don't think he knows what he said in an and it proved that approved out to this day. It's amazing.

I also remember the billion-dollar man Ted DiBiase. Okay, I remember the first church I pastor the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Springfield, South Carolina, and in Wagner's South Carolina which is far from there they had done billion-dollar man came Steen came that night.

I think you will be the main attraction. Okay, and after they had just about the rain and nothing is Millie billion-dollar me and maybe staying in some of the guys share their testimony. Remember hearing about a movement of God among some of the wrestlers yes and in and I was wondering if you were even own on that and part of that movement you could share with me more about how so many of these wrestlers made the transition from what they did coquettishly to come and get of the Lord is a real spiritual awakening. Yeah well would say so I wouldn't say say so many. Note, however, a handful have an and stinking one actually being one totally blind should be in one Magnum TA's lantern as a believer of following Christ Ted DiBiase eventually rolled where Hawk came to Lord your nap before he died, rolled where animal he made a profession of faith. So there. There have been a handful of these guys that reach the pinnacle of success and realize that all all all of the bling in the Bible.

Some trinkets and all that all six at the pinnacle of success still leaves you empty in the void inside without a relationship with Jesus Christ and so many of those guys I mentioned, will all of the guys I mention came to that realization and the other part of your question was did I have some roller, some parting in that the answer is yes.

I would call for me. I invited them to a revival in 1995 that he showed up and I didn't lose there till he was at the altar, surrendered his life to the Lord and and I knew his lifestyle prior right.

I traveled on the road with the man I knew him well you stayed the same.

Tell room together rolled the same car together. I knew his addictions and his shortcomings and and so to see him transformed that night at the altar.

I mean, set free of drug addiction, alcohol addiction, tobacco addiction. I don't know that another cost whatever came out of his mouth.

After that night at the altar Road where Hawk invited animal to a conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Larry Kerry, Chuck athletes international ministries. He asked if he could bring Hawk Hawk was well known as the biggest party or on the planet and nobody was going to put him down. He was going to put everyone down an animal sent Kent. Can we bring him to to the coffee. I said would show you, you know, it's a Krista golfer it's right you an invite Hawk. He was, I feel I should what he did he came Jensen Franco was the keynote speaker. The very first night Hawk came to the altar first one there surrendered his life to Jesus, a life-changing transformation baptize them in the pool there at the Scottsdale resort that we can draw him on the road started mentoring and discipling him for year and 1/2 prior to use in his is his passing. So so yeah so I think that's it. That's kind of the answer to your question, yes it's amazing how you know I look back on my own life and when I think about what guys do in your life and dislike. It's got to be the amazing grace of God that I'm disabled to get up to speak like I do every Sunday morning and share with folks because I know it's not anything I've done all this for any of us. God's grace.

Yeah…… It is amazing let's have one more question Todd when he got appreciates it well.

I don't know I'm just thinking off the top my head right now you have a favorite place that you liked to to Rasul favorite reading arena yeah you went to that you enjoyed right you actually actually I did. Baltimore, Maryland.

Our dear friend Frank Shelton doesn't live far from there that want to connect. He's the one that I know you say yes what personal you guys went to school together at Gardner Webb right and it and you got the got to got to build this relationship all these years later you write my I know you recently had a man in the past you had a numerous times, actually. But the guys did a big conference just recently yeah at your church. But Baltimore Baltimore really and I'll tell you now tell you, just very briefly why it was a favorite place to wrestle.

We actually my first appreciation for the fans of Baltimore came when when Jim Crockett had to brainstorm the idea of booking Rick flare nine. The main event world tag or exceed the world heavyweight title match in both Richmond, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland on the same night was that not a matinee and a night show same night, and we have private planes and all that. At that at that moment in time and so we went on in Richmond.

They started back showing hour before the show in Baltimore thinking we have plenty of time and went on before new mission which the fans were not happy about the world heavyweight title match before new mission. They were not happy wrestle 30, 35 minutes hustled out to the airport. I don't even know that we showered jumped on the private planes flew to Baltimore, limousines waiting to take us to the arena. By the time we got to the arena and there's no cell phones back in those days rights of the promoter has no clue where we are not right right no idea, so almost all the matches really are, in fact, we walked in the arena. There were put up. The case was a road wares were in a cage match. They had a cage match. Then they had to take the cage down and all that takes time before Rick and I ever got to step into the ring.

Will that show started at 8 o'clock in Baltimore. Rick and I stepped into the ring. I'll never forget looking at the clock at the at 12 midnight was they'd already been there 4+ hours. The fans we wrestled for 55 minutes you I looked at the clock it was 1255 when when the final go in and so to matches tonight's so that was my first appreciation. They were on their feet. The entire match for 55 minutes the fans of Baltimore.

They were amazing. Honestly, even leaving that at all and then the other part B of that story is the Jim Crockett cup tagteam tournament which was a two day tournament in Baltimore to get to experience the inner Harbor. Little's a little in their little Italy.

Sabatino's in Little Italy.

Still to this day. One of the favorite places to go. In fact recent edits in ministry outside of Baltimore and they took me back to little little Italy back to Sabatino's after 25 year hiatus same owners and that they were beside themselves that they all remit their huge dressing fans and now the sons are running the restaurant and they all wanted pictures and everything so that was pretty cool. Baltimore, Maryland. So great questions. My brother will great to have you taught on and on the on the Q&A with Cole law for the will have to get you back again for the man up show sometime sounds great. Now I will will thank you dial-in hey listen if you want me to call you.
