This is Amy Thomas from the masculine journey podcast where we discover what it means to be a wholehearted man your chosen Truth Network podcast is starting in just seconds.

Enjoy it, share it, but most of all, thank you for listening and for choosing The Truth Podcast Network. This is the Truth Network encouraging prayer, God offers an open invitation for his people to talk with him at any time about anything on encouraging prayer Dr. James Banks, author of the best-selling and many other books on prayer provides weekly physical insight help you learn to love and now encouraging prayer going to talk about something you might call how done it. I am Rachel Torres here for Robbie Delmore, James. I've heard about whodunits maybe better explain to her audience.

But how done it is a long time ago and wonder how they did it out like building the pyramid, we know how to bestowed today. We could look at a number of Google long forgotten skills and you come up with things like using a slide rule lower numbers for calculating change about a cash register or writing in cursive conscience. So does this have to do with prayer and scripture about something Jesus did in you see something really interesting. Luke 612 one of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray spent the night praying to God. No interesting about this is it's right before he chose the 12 apostles there mentioned in the next verses. So what you see is Jesus had the decision to make here and he prayed all night about it. That brings us to the how done it part. How do you do that, how can you spend the entire night praying about something. See what you mean thinking that if we can learn the way Jesus was praying for such a long time. It would help us learn to spend time with that as well. Exactly we all struggle with that. We need we could figure out how Jesus just what do I like what Ben Patterson he wrote the more pressing question for us is not why Jesus prayed all night, but how it's not hard to imagine working all night reading readable night of the book is really fascinating but praying all night. How does one do that Jesus just ask over and over again should be among the 12 highly unlikely that not only because it would be incredibly boring, but because Jesus had spoken out against babbling or meaningless repetition. So we really want to learn here is just what this look like if we learn how Jesus did it, it changes everything. If not overstating because the more we pray, the more we discover what only God can do and the more we can learn how to pray more the better one, that it's not the amount of time that matters and self that would be legalistic. But what we need to do is discover how to lose track of time. This interesting take on things because usually think about how to make the most of the time we have. That's right we do that I will wired what this is all about.

I think is becoming so enthralled with what were talking to that which is put our watches away when we pick them up again. We realize this, Damon just sitting in God's presence in looking at our watches isn't exactly a good thing you got it all.

I think your daughter about that you read about trying to prayed be distracted by the noise of the carriage or blessing of a fly window so 27 for comes to mind with this is one thing I asked from the Lord. This only do I see that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

There you go again. How could David Wright that when we never see Scripture telling us that David saw God with what David is. There was this a reality of the heart. Think about it. Paul writes in one place. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened. Escamilla God maybe maybe open so what were looking at is this whole concept of one space God. Only God will do. I think that's why David used the language of gazing at this prolonged protracted enjoyment… Anything mystical. This is just intended to be the norm for believers because were just loving God just in his presence. You know, soaking it in you for not doing that. What's a heaven for see what you mean going to be in God's presence for all of eternity helps to learn how enjoy it now right, Ben Patterson, quoted earlier this reflection on this verse also… Old if you summed it up this way if it Jesus knew what he needed most in order to make good decisions, not information, but a refreshed fellowship with his father night was spent doing all the things that genuine prayer is asking the listing inquiring and praising thinking and thanking meditating and singing sitting in silence for and I like that list because of the list at all, but because it shows this unhurried uninhibited natural relationship with God and that is what so much of prayer comes down to just you with God and all the learn how to do that more and more that's what it means to walk by faith not by sight and we might think like will Jesus could do this because it was Jesus, but he came to save us and teach us and show us how to have a relationship and when he does that. One of the things he does this teach us so you don't start spending time with God I could. That's a good place to start using it as an example is a template if you will just pray the word of the life how you worship and praise him back and take some time.

My kingdom come talk with them about heaven and how you can serve him here and how you want to make it fair that I will be done about wanting what he wants and asking for his help and this is really practical anything about it. That's right because of movement in his presence changes everything transforms everything changes us, empowers us to be blessed because of it.

Ultimately I don't think it's the how doing this matter so much because he is given us all the same building blocks and how we put them together will be is different and unique as each of us.

But the important thing is that we simply want to do that to tell him we want to spend time with him and he will help us and lead us and bless us and will show you how to do this. I think that's a real solution to the how does it just be with him. You said James really what this is all about is just hanging out with Jesus. Yeah that would be with him. Imagine he's with you near you in the studio in the car wherever you may be welcome them into the moment. Whatever's going on in your life to him about so much more than words.

It's a matter of the heart. Thanks James. I think this'll be super helpful for our listeners closes out with the prayer today at the wheel each go there more in our hearts and lives absolutely excellent. Let's pray Lord we can help us to be real with you. We thank you that as we are.

You make yourself real. Always look forward to hear more from Pastor James by visiting the website James Banks.org or by visiting church in Durham, North Carolina.
